Liu Ruyan, upon hearing this, hastily straightened her clothes, shot Li Feng a coquettish glare, picked up the documents from the floor, and fled the lift like a startled deer.
Li Feng waited half a minute before stepping out of the lift, brushing past a man just in time.
Exiting the lift, Li Feng caught sight of Liu Ruyan entering the business area, and a faint smile tugged at his lips.
Originally, he had no designs on Liu Ruyan, but after that scene, his heart began to stir. He was never one for undivided affections; he liked Hu Yuanyuan, but not to the point of forsaking all other women for her sake.
In his previous life, he had been arrogant and unbound, a dashing libertine; in this one, he lived solely for himself, savouring life and its pleasures, that was his creed.
Reaching Hu Yuanyuan’s office, he found it empty; asking a clerical worker, he learned Hu Yuanyuan had gone to the conference room for a meeting.
Li Feng had no interest in the meeting and lay down on the sofa in Hu Yuanyuan’s office, resting while he waited; today had been a day of frantic toing and froing, with matters unresolved but troubles aplenty.
Thud thud thud…
He knew not how much time passed; just as Li Feng was drifting into sleep, the sound of high heels approached, and he rubbed his eyes, sitting up to look towards the door, only to see Hu Yuanyuan entering with Xu Qing.
“Li Feng, what are you doing here.” Hu Yuanyuan looked at Li Feng, her face full of surprise.
“I came to check in.”
Li Feng’s gaze fell on Hu Yuanyuan as he asked, “How is the investigation into the Tianhai Customs matter going. Any results.”
Hu Yuanyuan glanced at Xu Qing, who quickly said, “President Li, the company has not a single lead, but today we called France, and their people told us this shipment is a batch of machines for chemical experiments.”
“Machines for chemical experiments. Could it be some domestic laboratory.” Li Feng furrowed his brows, somewhat puzzled as he said, “If it truly is a laboratory, do they need to be so secretive. Besides, does Hua Xia even have private laboratories for that sort of thing now.”
“That is what baffles us too; from the information we have gathered, in Tianhai City, aside from Tianhai University, there is no such laboratory. Unless the buyer is not in Tianhai City.” Xu Qing replied.
“And the Tianhai Customs side now, how are they reacting.” Li Feng pressed on.
“The Tianhai Customs side still insists we are smuggling arms and will not let our people near the freighter.” Hu Yuanyuan took over, her expression somewhat gloomy as she said, “I think this Tianhai Customs is deliberately making trouble for us; smuggling arms, such nonsense is clearly treating us like soft targets, so I have already sent someone to the police station to notify the police. I want to see just how arrogant these Tianhai Customs folk can be.”
“I fear calling the police will be useless.” Li Feng shook his head; this affair was clearly a frame-up against Fen Yuan Group by the Tianhai Customs side, and those at Customs were no fools; since they dared act, they surely did not fear Fen Yuan Group’s retaliation, and the police. They were likely in their pockets already.
“You mean…” Hu Yuanyuan’s face shifted; she somewhat grasped Li Feng’s implication. As someone from a great clan, she naturally understood the underhand dealings. Only she had never imagined they would dare bully her like this.
“Hmph, I want to see if they truly have connections reaching to the heavens.” Hu Yuanyuan said coldly. If she, Hu Yuanyuan, were seen as easy to bully, that would be a grave mistake; this was the first matter she had handled as head of Fen Yuan Group, and in her heart, it absolutely could not go awry.
“Whether they reach the heavens, I know not; what worries me now is that they might tamper with the cargo, leaving us without a leg to stand on.” Li Feng said with evident concern.
Hu Yuanyuan’s face changed upon hearing this; if in this interval the other side swapped the cargo, then truly they would be speechless in defence, and not only that, it would be a massive blow to Fen Yuan Group, with adverse effects on the upcoming smartphone launch.
“No, we go to Tianhai Customs right now.” With that, Hu Yuanyuan turned to leave.
“No need; if Tianhai Customs truly intends this, they will not let us near our freighter.” Li Feng shook his head.
“Then we just let them frame us like this.” Hu Yuanyuan said, displeased.
“Of course not; most importantly, we must find out who wants to frame us and what their aim is.” Li Feng shook his head.
“You mean…” Hu Yuanyuan paused.
“A mere customs supervisor at Tianhai, do you think he would frame us. Frame Fen Yuan Group; what benefit does he gain from that. Besides, Fen Yuan Group’s foreign trade department brings in vast customs duties for the state each year. If the matter blows up, how is a little supervisor to account to his superiors.”
Li Feng said with a cold laugh, “In my view, that Supervisor Xu is merely a front-facing pawn; to resolve this, we must drag out the one behind him.”
“Fen Yuan Group does not seem to have offended anyone, and even if we had, why would they go to such lengths to target our freighter. If it were the Smart One, I could see it; after all, the Smart One now is a epoch-making invention with major impact on the smart sector, and gaining its core tech equals immense wealth, but those chemical machines, what use have they for them.” Hu Yuanyuan said, full of bewilderment.
“That is not for us to ponder; to us, those chemical machines are worthless, but to some, they are rare treasures.” Li Feng shook his head and asked, “Has that buyer for those chemical machines still not surfaced.”
“No, not a whisper.” Hu Yuanyuan shook her head and said, “I had Lu Ping check all past clients of Sun Group with business in this area, but none fit.”
At this, Hu Yuanyuan glanced at Li Feng and continued, “Now Sun Xipeng is dead too, so investigating is impossible.”
Li Feng knew that though Hu Yuanyuan said nothing, in her heart she surely thought he had killed Sun Xipeng, but Li Feng offered no further explanation; first, Sun Xipeng’s death was indeed tied to him, and second, he did not want Hu Yuanyuan knowing there was a mastermind behind Sun Xipeng.
But just as Hu Yuanyuan said, with Sun Xipeng dead, the trail went cold; even with Shen Changyu still around, Li Feng doubted Shen Changyu knew who this mysterious buyer was.
For Fen Yuan Group now, there was actually another option: downplay the matter, pretend it never happened; after all, with the mysterious buyer yet to appear, losing this shipment had little impact on Fen Yuan Group.
But with Tianhai Customs claiming Fen Yuan Group was smuggling arms, this could be big or small, with staggering repercussions for the group. Especially with a new product launch imminent; if some busybody spread this, the consequences would be dire.
“It seems this mysterious buyer is no simple soul either.” Li Feng thought for a moment and said, “No need to dwell on who the buyer is now; most pressing is resolving the customs affair.”
“How to resolve it. Do you have a way.” Hu Yuanyuan asked.
A cold smile curled at Li Feng’s lips: “Did not Supervisor Xu say our freighter is smuggling arms. Then we make a fuss of it; I want to see who cannot handle the fallout.”
