Hidden Dragon Heir Chapter 129

“You police are always so slow to react.”

Li Feng emerged from his hiding spot, sneering at the detectives pointing guns at him. “No wonder Tianhai City’s security is so poor. So many thugs running rampant in broad daylight.”

Li Feng didn’t want to leave early. The sudden attack made it easy for the police to track him through intersection surveillance, and as the victim, he saw no need to flee. Moreover, he wanted to leverage the police’s resources to investigate the attackers’ identities.

This was a well-organized, premeditated assault. The firepower and the assailants’ skills were unlike anything Li Feng had encountered since arriving in this world. He was certain these attackers had significant backing.

Though he had the Dark Tiger’s intelligence network, it was only effective in Tianhai City. Outside its borders, he was blind and could uncover nothing. Investigating the attackers’ origins on his own would be immensely difficult. Thus, Li Feng turned to the police.

In his eyes, the police were synonymous with incompetence, but as an official force, their vast intelligence network could provide substantial help. Given his special status, he didn’t believe the police would brush this off.

“Hands up!” a detective barked. With so many dead and Li Feng still alive, he viewed Li Feng as a dangerous figure.

“What kind of look is that? Can’t you see I’ve been shot?” Li Feng lifted the hand covering his wound, glaring coldly at the detective. “If not for my great luck, I’d be dead by now. Is this how you police treat victims?”

At that moment, He Zhiwu approached, glanced at Li Feng, and waved his hand. “Lower your guns.”

“Captain.”

“Lower them!” He Zhiwu shouted sternly.

“Yes, sir.”

“Finally, someone with authority. Get me to a hospital quick. If anything happens to me, you’ll regret it,” Li Feng said, sneering disdainfully at He Zhiwu.

“Arrogant!” the earlier detective roared in anger.

Li Feng shot him a cold glance. “Yes, I’m arrogant. So what? If you’ve got the skills, catch the culprits for me. If not, stop yapping. It’s annoying.”

“You—”

Li Feng’s icy stare and fleeting killing intent made the detective step back.

“Old Wu,” He Zhiwu called.

Old Wu stepped forward to examine Li Feng’s wound. Li Feng didn’t resist. Soon, Old Wu looked up and said, “Captain, it’s from a sniper rifle.”

He Zhiwu nodded and asked Li Feng, “Who are you?”

“Li Feng, Vice President of Fengyuan Group,” Li Feng answered.

“What? Is that true?” He Zhiwu’s expression shifted. He hadn’t expected Li Feng to be the vice president of Fengyuan Group, a household name in Tianhai City due to the Tianhai Customs incident. He was stunned that this young man held such a position.

“Idiot, why would I lie? Go check if you don’t believe me. Now get me to a hospital. Do you want me to die?” Li Feng said impatiently, still nursing his gunshot wound.

“Someone, take Mr. Li to the hospital immediately!” He Zhiwu didn’t dare delay. If Li Feng died, he couldn’t bear the consequences. Besides, with Li Feng under their watch, they could question him anytime.

“Yes, sir.”

The detectives moved quickly, sirens blaring as they rushed Li Feng to the city’s central hospital.

Half an hour later, the bullet was removed from Li Feng’s body, and he was placed in a special care ward.

Lying on the hospital bed, Li Feng gave a wry smile. The hospital’s so-called expert doctors had performed a terrible surgery. It was just a bullet removal, yet it took half an hour. If he’d known it would be so troublesome, he would’ve removed it himself.

On the bed, Li Feng circulated the Nine Heavens Heart Sutra, channeling true qi to heal his wound. He had no intention of staying in the hospital for ten days or more; speeding up recovery relied on his true qi.

After one cycle of the Nine Heavens Heart Sutra, the pain eased significantly. Li Feng let out a long breath, feeling his vitality returning.

Tap, tap, tap…

Footsteps approached. Li Feng looked up to see He Zhiwu entering with Old Wu.

“Mr. Li, how are you feeling?” He Zhiwu asked with concern upon entering the ward.

“Not good, terrible,” Li Feng said discontentedly. “The doctors here are awful. Taking out a bullet took forever. How do they even qualify as doctors? Captain He, have you caught the culprits yet?”

He Zhiwu shook his head. “I’m here to understand some things from you, Mr. Li.”

“What do you want to know? Your priority should be catching those culprits,” Li Feng said, displeased.

Li Feng felt himself slipping more into the role of an arrogant young master. But with the police, this attitude was necessary; otherwise, they might not take him seriously. That’s why his tone was so sharp from the start.

Moreover, Li Feng believed this was his true nature—arrogant. In his previous life, military discipline had suppressed his personality. Now, free of those constraints and with his special status, his brash character was emerging.

“Mr. Li, who do you think these culprits were?” He Zhiwu frowned and asked.

“How would I know? I’m the one asking you! How do you police operate? So many armed thugs in Tianhai City, and you had no clue. If not for my great luck, I’d be dead under their guns by now,” Li Feng said, exasperated. Though he knew this was standard police procedure, seeing them waste time here made him uneasy. In his view, they should be out chasing the culprits instead of asking pointless questions.

“Then why were you at that location, Mr. Li?” He Zhiwu continued.

“I was going home. Why else would I be there?” Li Feng glanced at him. “I left the company, went to Wenjun Pavilion Pharmacy to buy some herbs, and was driving home. That’s when I got attacked at the intersection. If not for my luck, I’d be the one dead.”

“What were you buying herbs for?” He Zhiwu asked while taking notes.

“How’s that related to the case?” Li Feng countered.

“It’s relevant. I hope you’ll answer truthfully, Mr. Li,” He Zhiwu nodded.

“Of course, for my own use. Why else would I buy them?”

“For your own use? As far as I know, you bought rare herbs like millennium ginseng, worth tens of millions. You’re using these yourself?” He Zhiwu’s face was full of disbelief. If Li Feng were an elderly man needing such herbs to cling to life, he might believe it. But Li Feng, in his early twenties, using such precious herbs? He couldn’t buy it.

“Why not?” Li Feng retorted.

“Do you think I’d believe that?” He Zhiwu sneered. “Mr. Li, come clean. What are you doing with those herbs?”

“I’ve been clear. What more do you want?” Li Feng glared coldly at him, his goodwill toward He Zhiwu gone. He hadn’t expected He Zhiwu to fixate on the herbs. What was he implying?

“Mr. Li, I hope you’ll explain clearly,” He Zhiwu said coldly.

“Explain? I’ve said all there is to say. Believe it or not, that’s on you,” Li Feng snorted, looking at He Zhiwu coldly. “Let me tell you, besides the snipers, one masked man escaped. You should be figuring out how to catch them instead of asking these pointless questions.”

“Pointless?” He Zhiwu sneered, looking at Li Feng. “If I were you, Mr. Li, I wouldn’t dodge the issue or hide anything. Don’t you think it’s suspicious that so many assassins were sent after you? If you don’t cooperate, how can we investigate?”

Finding so many herbs in Li Feng’s car, He Zhiwu’s first thought was that the attack was related to them. They were too valuable. Now, Li Feng claimed he used them himself, which He Zhiwu thought only a fool would believe.

Li Feng glared coldly at He Zhiwu, itching to beat him senseless. This guy, a criminal investigation captain, seemed like an idiot to him.

He Zhiwu met Li Feng’s gaze unflinchingly, their eyes almost sparking with tension.

Seeing the situation escalate, Old Wu interjected, “Mr. Li, where did you get these herbs?”

“I bought them at Wenjun Pavilion Pharmacy. If you don’t believe me, go check. As for their purpose, I’ll say it again: they’re for my own use. If you don’t believe that, I can’t help you,” Li Feng said.

He Zhiwu still looked skeptical but said nothing more, merely giving Li Feng a deep look.

Old Wu continued, “So, Mr. Li, how did you escape those assassins? Are the daggers in the bodies yours?”

“Yes, they’re mine. If I hadn’t loved playing with daggers since I was a kid, I’d be dead today,” Li Feng nodded.

“Your skills are impressive, Mr. Li,” He Zhiwu said sarcastically.

Li Feng shot him a cold glance, picked up a stainless steel cup from the bedside table, and squeezed it into a twisted metal ball. Looking up with a cold smirk, he asked, “Captain He, can you do this?”
