“Refreshing!”
Zheng Haoyuan climbed off a woman, looking at her limp on the bed with a pale face, and sneered disdainfully. This woman’s quality was too poor, utterly useless for his cultivation. It seemed his master was right. To make rapid progress in his technique, he needed one of the legendary ten physiques. Ordinary women offered him next to nothing.
“Get out.”
Seeing the woman’s face growing increasingly aged, Zheng Haoyuan frowned, kicking her away. The woman glanced at him in terror, fleeing in panic.
Zheng Haoyuan draped on a robe and headed to the study. Two middle-aged men waited there. Upon seeing him enter, they quickly greeted, “Young Master Zheng.”
Zheng Haoyuan acknowledged them, settling onto the sofa by the desk. He glanced at them and said, “What kind of job did you do? I asked you to get a woman, and you brought such trash. How could someone like her match this young master’s divine technique?”
“Young Master Zheng is right to scold us. Next time, we’ll definitely get a better woman for you,” one of them, a bespectacled middle-aged man, replied.
“No need. I have a fine choice,” Zheng Haoyuan said, a smile curving his lips.
The bespectacled man looked at Zheng Haoyuan in surprise. He hadn’t expected him to have spotted someone so soon after arriving in Tianhai City. Curious about who it was, he dared not ask in front of Zheng Haoyuan.
“Prepare yourselves. Tomorrow, come with me to Fengyuan Group,” Zheng Haoyuan instructed.
“Yes.”
After responding, the bespectacled man asked, “Young Master Zheng, Fengyuan Group just called. They’ve refused to hand over that batch of machines, saying they have a new buyer.”
“Hmph, what I want, no one can take away,” Zheng Haoyuan sneered, unconcerned by Fengyuan Group’s refusal.
“But, Young Master Zheng…”
“No buts. Rest assured, what Young Master Fu wants, I’ll get no matter what. Could a puny Fengyuan Group stir up any real trouble?” Zheng Haoyuan scoffed disdainfully. Though Young Master Fu had warned him Fengyuan Group wasn’t simple, in Zheng Haoyuan’s eyes, no matter how complex, could it surpass him?
Yesterday, he had kindly gone to Fengyuan Group for those machines, yet they hemmed and hawed. That alone ensured he wouldn’t let them off easy. Now, with their outright refusal by phone, it gave him the perfect excuse to deal with them.
“I’m bored since arriving in Tianhai City. This time, I’ll have some real fun,” Zheng Haoyuan said, his eyes gleaming with a sinister smile.
The bespectacled man shuddered in fear. Whenever he saw that smile, he knew someone was in for trouble.
…
The VIP ward was the high-end section of the city centre hospital, on the thirteenth floor of the inpatient building. Even in daytime, it was exceptionally quiet, let alone at night, when it was utterly silent.
It was now ten in the evening, deep into the night.
Shu Wei paced the corridor restlessly. As a small team captain in the criminal police, protecting someone filled him with reluctance, but orders from above left him no choice but to comply.
Truth be told, Shu Wei admired Li Feng greatly. Surviving an attack from so many assailants was nothing short of a miracle. If it were him, lasting even a minute would be tough, let alone surviving.
Li Feng was vice president of Fengyuan Group. Shu Wei never imagined a big boss having such formidable skills. In his mind, tycoons should be pot-bellied, cowardly types.
But whatever the reason for Li Feng’s prowess, it wasn’t his concern. His duty was protection.
Sometimes Shu Wei wondered if Li Feng, with such skills, even needed guarding.
Of course, he kept that thought to himself. As a criminal officer, he followed orders.
Suddenly, his ears perked up, his peripheral vision catching the stairwell corner. A cop’s instinct told him something lurked there. Alert, he crept closer.
As he neared the stairs, an ordinary-looking middle-aged man sneaked up.
Lifting his head, the man met Shu Wei’s icy stare, his face paling as he tried to retreat.
In that instant, Shu Wei struck, swiftly grabbing the man and yanking him forward.
Looking up, he saw two more trailing behind, stunned at the sight of Shu Wei.
But they reacted quickly, drawing daggers and charging at him.
By now, Shu Wei knew who they were. With only Li Feng on this floor, their murderous intent was clearly aimed at him.
Rage boiled in Shu Wei. Li Feng was under police protection, yet they dared attempt this. It was an outright insult to the force, unforgivable.
Bang!
Shu Wei struck the man’s neck with a knife-hand, knocking him out and dropping him to the floor. Then, stomping the ground, he lunged at the other two.
Shu Wei moved like lightning, slithering between them like a snake, dodging their strikes. His hands flashed out, seizing their knife-wielding right hands and squeezing hard.
“Ah!”
Their right hands crushed, they howled in agony.
“Who are you? Who sent you? What are you doing here?” Shu Wei demanded coldly, his eyes sharp as blades, scanning their faces as if piercing their secrets.
One, a bald man with tattoos, stared at Shu Wei in terror: “We’re here to visit a patient. Why are you grabbing us?”
“Hmph, still lying at this point,” Shu Wei snorted coldly. Visiting a patient, yet drawing daggers at the sight of him? Did they take him for a fool?
“I, I…” The tattooed man stammered, glancing at his companion. “We really are visiting a patient. You suddenly grabbed our friend, so we thought you meant us harm.”
“Hmph, excuses,” Shu Wei said, his gaze chilling.
As fear flickered in the tattooed man’s eyes, Shu Wei struck his neck with a knife-hand. The man slumped, collapsing to the ground.
Shu Wei turned coldly to the other: “Talk. Who sent you?”
The man stared at Shu Wei in horror, stammering, “I, I don’t know…”
Hmph!
Shu Wei snorted, about to speak, when a bang echoed from the nearby VIP ward. His face changed instantly.
Damn, a diversion!
