“Kunyang Town?”
Qin Keqing was taken aback, looking at Li Feng in some surprise as she asked, “Young Master Li, why on earth are you suddenly asking about Kunyang Town?”
“Just now on the street, I overheard people mentioning Kunyang Town, saying it is unsafe and unclean. Just what makes Kunyang Town so unsafe and unclean?” Li Feng feigned curiosity as he asked.
“Kunyang Town?!”
Qin Keqing thought for a moment and said, “I have heard about this too. In Yong State, Kunyang Town seems like some kind of taboo. No one in Yong State dares to talk about it. I heard that in Kunyang Town, there seem to be demons and ghosts. Heh, how could demons and ghosts exist in this world? I think it is just some people making up stories for nothing.”
That might not be the case!
Li Feng thought to himself. He knew very well that demons and ghosts did exist in this world. To Qin Keqing, the idea of demons and ghosts in Kunyang Town was pure fabrication. But to Li Feng, it might well be true.
This world was full of wonders, so what was so strange about demons and ghosts? Moreover, Kunyang Town bordered the Hundred Thousand Great Mountains. Given the mysteries of those mountains, who could say what might emerge from them?
However, in front of Qin Keqing, he did not voice his thoughts. He merely nodded and said, “You make a good point. In modern society, how could there be demons and ghosts? Still, I am rather curious about such things. Miss Qin, could you tell me any other rumours about Kunyang Town?”
“Why are you interested in such matters?” Qin Keqing’s gaze fell on Li Feng, asking in puzzlement. She felt that someone of Li Feng’s status should not be curious about such things.
“I have a quirk: I like hearing about strange and bizarre tales.” Li Feng smiled and said.
“Well, alright then!” Qin Keqing did not refuse. In her view, talking about such things was preferable to Li Feng teasing her. So she recounted everything she had heard about Kunyang Town.
Li Feng listened quietly, interjecting only occasionally with a question and otherwise not interrupting. Once Qin Keqing finished, Li Feng said, “I never realised there were so many legends about Kunyang Town. Thank you, Miss Qin.”
Qin Keqing shook her head. To her, it was just a minor matter. Glancing at the time, she said to Li Feng, “Young Master Li, it is getting late. I should be going.”
“Please do.” Li Feng said indifferently.
Qin Keqing looked at Li Feng in surprise. She had assumed he would pester her endlessly, yet Li Feng showed no sign of it.
What was going on? Given Li Feng’s lecherous demeanour earlier, he should not let her off so easily.
For a moment, Qin Keqing felt bewildered.
Could Li Feng be playing hard to get?
Yes, that must be it. Only playing hard to get could explain his earlier lustful behaviour.
She gave Li Feng a deep look before turning to leave. But even at the door, she saw no sign of him following, leaving her even more puzzled.
Had she guessed wrong?
Li Feng had no idea what Qin Keqing was thinking. Though encountering her was a pleasant surprise, he had no time for romance. At this moment, he ate while digesting the legends Qin Keqing had shared.
A quarter of an hour later, Li Feng left the restaurant and returned to the bus station. But this time, he did not check the regular buses. Instead, he headed to a corner of the station, approaching several men in hats playing cards.
“Which of you goes to Kunyang Town?” Li Feng looked at these hat-wearing men and asked. Every place had its hidden underbelly, and the bus station was no exception. These hat-wearing men were the so-called black cab drivers.
The men paused their game, looking at Li Feng in astonishment. A bearded one spoke up, “Kunyang Town? You want to go to Kunyang Town?”
“That is right.” Li Feng nodded.
“Are you trying to get yourself killed? Is Kunyang Town a place for someone like you? Hahaha…” The bearded man burst into laughter after speaking.
The others were stunned at first, then joined in the laughter.
“Just tell me if any of you go to Kunyang Town.” Li Feng said calmly. In his previous life, he had dealt with such people, so their mockery did not anger him. He simply asked with a composed expression.
The bearded man was taken aback, staring at Li Feng for a long while before saying, “You truly want to go to Kunyang Town?”
“That is right.” Li Feng nodded.
“Kunyang Town is not safe. You could lose your life there.” The bearded man said.
“That is not your concern.” Li Feng replied indifferently.
“Eight thousand, and I will take the job.” The bearded man thought for a moment and said.
“No problem. Here is ten thousand; the extra is for your drinks.” Li Feng pulled out a stack of Chinese yuan and tossed it to the bearded man.
The bearded man gave Li Feng a deep look. “Follow me.” He then led the way.
Li Feng followed without hesitation.
The bearded man led Li Feng through twists and turns to an old truck, glancing back at him. “Get in.”
Li Feng boarded the truck without hesitation, sitting in the passenger seat.
The bearded man looked at Li Feng and said, “You got lucky today, running into me. Otherwise, to reach Kunyang Town, you would have to walk.”
“Why? Does no one go to Kunyang Town?” Li Feng asked.
“Kunyang Town is a chaotic place; not everyone is willing to go there.” The bearded man glanced at Li Feng and said, “Young master, heading to Kunyang Town, are you not afraid of not returning?”
Li Feng smiled faintly but said nothing.
“Kunyang Town, eh? It is a mysterious place. Young master, do you know why people fear going there?” Seeing Li Feng did not reply, the bearded man paid it no mind, starting the truck while asking.
“Because of those legends.” Li Feng answered.
“Those are not legends; they are real. The Hundred Thousand Great Mountains have stood for countless ages; who can fathom their mysteries? This time, the demons and ghosts in Kunyang Town came from the Hundred Thousand Great Mountains. Plenty of people have died there now. Who would dare go into the mountains?” The bearded man glanced back at Li Feng and said.
“Then why do you dare go to the Hundred Thousand Great Mountains?” Li Feng asked.
“Me?”
The bearded man laughed heartily. “Do you not know the saying that money makes the world go round? For money, there is no place I dare not go. But you, so young. Do you not value your life?”
Li Feng gazed at the scenery flashing by on either side, not answering the bearded man’s words. Instead, he asked, “Do you go to Kunyang Town often?”
“Yes, ten times a month, so fairly often. But my truck only stops outside Kunyang Town. If you want to enter, that is on you.” The bearded man replied.
Li Feng smiled, leaning back in his seat and falling silent.
The bearded man’s truck sped along, and three hours later, they arrived outside Kunyang Town.
“Young master, that is Kunyang Town ahead. I can only bring you this far.” The bearded man stopped the truck and said.
Li Feng looked ahead, seeing only the shadow of a small town. He nodded, opened the door, jumped down, and waved to the bearded man. “Thanks!” Without further ado, he headed towards Kunyang Town.
Shortly after Li Feng left, several men emerged from the woods on both sides, surrounding the truck.
“Wild Wolf, it is me.” The bearded man jumped down from the truck and greeted the leader.
“Big Beard, why are you here so early today? It is not the usual time.” The man called Wild Wolf by the bearded man looked at him in surprise.
“No choice; a guest wanted to come to Kunyang Town, so I had to come ahead of schedule.” The bearded man smiled indifferently.
“Someone coming to Kunyang Town?” Wild Wolf’s expression darkened slightly. He looked at the bearded man gravely and said, “Do you know what kind of person he is? Do you not know that outsiders are not allowed in Kunyang Town?”
“What does that have to do with me? As long as there is money, I do not think about such things.” The bearded man shook his head and said, “Just a young lad; you can deal with him easily.”
Wild Wolf looked at the bearded man coldly and said, “You are breaking the rules. Do you not want to leave here anymore?”
“Wild Wolf, do you not want to kill me? Hah, think it over carefully.” The bearded man laughed heartily, looking at Wild Wolf as he said, “Aside from me, no one dares deliver food to Kunyang Town now. Think carefully: without food supplies, how long can you lot last in Kunyang Town?”
“You…” Wild Wolf’s face changed, his gaze turning icy as he stared at the bearded man.
The bearded man sneered, waving at Wild Wolf. “Hurry and have your men unload the goods. I do not want to linger in this damned place.”
Wild Wolf took a deep breath, gave the bearded man a cold look, and ordered his subordinates, “Unload the goods immediately. Also, notify Wild Fox to take care of that young lad.”
