Caught?
That was his first thought, as he was impersonating a Du Clan member and following Wild Fox’s entourage.
But Li Feng was no ordinary man. He showed no panic, turning with a smile. “I’m new here.”
While speaking, he stayed on guard, ready to act if things went south. Though surrounded by Du Clan members, he was confident he could break through.
“New? Are you sent by Lord Wild Cat?” The burly man who spoke frowned at Li Feng’s words.
Wild Cat?
Li Feng’s mind raced, and he quickly replied, “Yes, I was sent by Lord Wild Cat.”
“I thought so. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have missed you.” The burly man nodded, adding, “But be careful with Lord Wild Fox. You might not even know how you died.”
“Why’s that?” Li Feng asked.
“Because Lord Wild Fox handles dangerous missions. In our Du Clan, his team has the highest death rate, especially now,” the burly man answered.
“Is something different now? Do you know why they’re after Li Feng?” Li Feng pressed.
“Li Feng? He’s the first outsider to come to Kunyang Town in years. His arrival caused the deaths of so many of our Du Clan members.” The burly man’s eyes flashed with hatred. “If not for him, the Du Clan wouldn’t have lost years of peace. Because of him, a lot of people have come to Kunyang Town.”
“A lot of people?” Li Feng feigned confusion, though he was genuinely surprised. He hadn’t expected so many to arrive in Kunyang Town recently. Who were they, and why were they here? Why did this man say their arrival was tied to him?
“You didn’t know?” The burly man looked at Li Feng with surprise but then slapped his head. “Right, you’re one of Lord Wild Cat’s men. He’s in charge of Kunyang Town’s defenses. You must’ve been stationed at some outpost, so you didn’t hear the news.”
“Exactly. I was guarding a warehouse before being suddenly reassigned, so I’m out of the loop,” Li Feng said.
He inwardly sighed with relief. The man’s assumption saved him from having to explain, and he’d gleaned useful information: Wild Cat, responsible for Kunyang Town’s defenses.
“No wonder.” The burly man nodded in realisation. “Since you don’t know, let me fill you in. This Li Feng who came to Kunyang Town is brazen. Right after arriving, he killed over a dozen of Lord Wild Fox’s men. Wild Fox hates him to the bone. At first, we didn’t even know Li Feng’s name, but the Zheng family told us. After Li Feng showed up, others followed. I heard from Lord Wild Fox that among them are people from the National Security Bureau and the Zheng family.”
“National Security Bureau? The government? What are they doing here, and what’s their connection to Li Feng?” Li Feng was shocked. He hadn’t expected the National Security Bureau to come to Kunyang Town. Were they here because of him?
“I heard it’s related to Li Feng, but I don’t know the details. I got this from Lord Wild Fox,” the burly man replied.
He paused, then continued, “I reckon this Li Feng must be some heinous criminal. Otherwise, why would the National Security Bureau get involved? I don’t know much about them, but I heard from Lord Wild Fox they’re a special department that handles things the police can’t.”
“Yeah, Li Feng must be a vile criminal.” Li Feng nodded, then asked, “And what about the Zheng family? Are they connected to Li Feng too?”
“Yes. I’m not sure about the National Security Bureau, but the Zheng family is definitely here to kill Li Feng,” the burly man answered.
The Zheng family?
From Zhongyuan Province?
A surge of killing intent rose in Li Feng’s heart. To kill him, and surnamed Zheng? It could only be the Zhongyuan Province Zheng family. He had spared Zheng Haoyuan to avoid a blood feud, but he hadn’t expected them to send people all the way to Kunyang Town to hunt him.
If that was the case, why should he hold back?
Since the Zheng family didn’t know their place, Li Feng wouldn’t be polite. Zhongyuan Province Zheng family? He’d kill every one that came.
Seeing Li Feng fall silent, the burly man thought he was stunned by the revelation and felt a bit smug. Among Wild Fox’s men, his status was low, always overshadowed by others. Now, he finally had a chance to show off.
Seizing the moment, he continued, “At first, we didn’t even know Li Feng’s name; the Zheng family told us. Lord Wild Fox thought Li Feng was hiding in the Hundred Thousand Mountains, too scared to show himself. But now, not only has he appeared, he’s killed more of our Du Clan. Hmph, he’s got some guts. He’s asking for death. Our Du Clan isn’t so easily trifled with. I bet an order to kill Li Feng will come soon. So, be sharp and keep your eyes open, or you won’t even know how you died.”
Li Feng nodded heavily. “Got it, brother. Thanks.” He turned toward a nearby grove.
“Where are you going?” The burly man, eager to keep showing off, panicked as Li Feng left.
“Nature calls, brother. I’ll handle it and be back,” Li Feng said without looking back. From the man, he’d gotten what he needed. Now, he planned to infiltrate the villa to see what else he could learn.
The Zheng family, the Du Clan.
Li Feng hadn’t expected these unrelated groups to unite against him. The Du Clan alone was tough, and now with the Zheng family, things were getting trickier.
He had two choices. One: stick to the plan. Du Clan or Zheng family, if they wanted to kill him, he’d fight back—kill, kill, kill. Two: retreat, return to Tianhai City, and bring the Black Eagle Squad.
The first option risked facing a combined attack from both, highly dangerous. The second would take too long to deal with the Du Clan. But Li Feng dismissed the second option instantly—he wasn’t one to flee.
Infiltrating the villa wouldn’t be easy. Its defenses were stronger than he’d imagined, with several martial auras inside. And it was daytime, adding to the challenge.
Li Feng’s eyes scanned the villa and its surroundings, searching for a way in.
