Leaving the hospital, Li Feng drove to the training base in the suburbs. After days of overtime, the base was completed ahead of schedule. It resembled a fortress, with high walls enclosing it, concealing the interior.
After touring the entire base, Li Feng nodded in satisfaction. Though far inferior in quality, it was a simplified version of the special forces camp from his past life. Walking through it felt like stepping back into that camp.
Li Feng had remodelled the base not for nostalgia but because this simplified design offered integrated offence and defence capabilities.
His purpose today was to set up the base’s defences. Before the remodelling, he had purchased a large amount of equipment online. Now that the equipment had arrived and the base was complete, he was ready to install the defensive systems.
In Li Feng’s eyes, the performance of the online-purchased equipment was subpar, so he needed to modify it before installation. Though he couldn’t transform it into the advanced gear from his past life, he aimed to elevate it a notch, like upgrading a smartphone chip.
This was difficult for others but manageable for Li Feng, requiring only some effort.
Unlike developing new smart chips, much of this equipment was heavy, weighing hundreds or thousands of kilograms. Having reached the peak of the fifth level of body refinement and nearing the sixth, Li Feng’s strength was about 1,400 kilograms. With the help of an automatic crane, he could move the equipment.
It took a full day and night to set up the defence system. Though riddled with flaws in Li Feng’s view, he believed it was top-tier for this era. If certain equipment hadn’t been unavailable, the system could have been even better.
Li Feng considered using his future father-in-law’s connections to acquire more equipment but decided against it for now, unwilling to deal with him yet.
With the base remodelled and Tianlang and his brothers on board, his security company and Black Hawk team could officially launch. Next, he needed to train the Black Hawk members to build their combat strength.
Their first target was the Black Stone Gang, a minor underground group involved in arms dealing. In Li Feng’s view, with China’s strict arms regulations, their business couldn’t be thriving, and they lacked the loyal, well-trained operatives of foreign arms dealers.
Tianlang and his brothers, battle-hardened mercenaries living on the edge of life and death, were more than capable of handling the gang’s thugs.
As Li Feng left the base, he received a call from Liu Shichao.
“Master Feng, the raw stones have left Biannan Province. They’ll reach Tianhai City tomorrow,” Liu Shichao’s voice came through.
“So soon?” After leaving Tianya Pavilion, Li Quan and others had sped up their plans. The day after, Liu Shichao had gone to Biannan Province to procure raw stones, reporting daily to Li Feng, who instructed him to follow Li Quan’s plan.
Yesterday, Liu Shichao said the procurement was nearly done, with a return planned in three days, but now they were a day early.
“Master Feng, it was Brother Peng’s idea. He called me this morning,” Liu Shichao explained.
Li Feng was puzzled. Li Quan might have rushed things, fearing Li Feng’s wealth would derail their plan, but what was Emperor Pavilion’s Brother Peng’s motive? Was he after Xiangfeng Investment Company’s shares?
Unlikely. Emperor Pavilion’s operations far surpassed Xiangfeng’s current status. Li Feng suspected Brother Peng was more interested in his life than shares.
Unable to figure out Peng’s motive, Li Feng gave up, telling Liu Shichao, “Just follow their instructions and don’t slip up. Notify me immediately when the stones reach Tianhai City.”
“Got it,” Liu Shichao replied, hanging up.
“I need to watch out for this Brother Peng. Compared to Li Quan, the venomous snake, Peng is the real wolf. The Black Stone Gang? Just a sick cat,” Li Feng thought.
Driving back to the city, Li Feng, despite his stamina, was exhausted after a day and night modifying equipment, having eaten only biscuits and instant noodles.
Spotting a noodle shop, he stopped and, under the stunned gaze of the owner, devoured three large bowls of lamb noodles.
Leaving the shop, he drove toward his villa to sleep, but minutes later, he needed to relieve himself. Parking by the roadside, he went into the woods to do so.
“That felt good,” Li Feng muttered, returning to his car.
Suddenly, a Porsche screeched to a halt beside him. Before he could react, the door flung open.
With a thud, Li Feng was knocked to the ground but quickly rolled and sprang up.
A lithe figure leapt from the car—a woman holding a steel blade, exuding both grace and lethal intent.
Li Feng sensed real killing intent; she had taken lives.
A fragrance hit him—Chanel, a limited-edition scent, musky and intoxicating.
Looking up, he saw a captivating face, both charming and expressive. Her flowing hair cascaded like a waterfall, her brows perfectly shaped, and her large, lively eyes, framed by delicate lashes, were mesmerising. Her refined nose and glossy lips sparked an urge to kiss them. Even Li Feng had to admit she was stunning, rivalling Hu Yuanyuan in beauty.
Her natural, unadorned face was breathtakingly pure and exquisite.
Li Feng wondered if he’d struck luck meeting such a beauty.
Then, two figures lunged at her, moving like lightning, leaving only afterimages. Had his strength not partially recovered, he wouldn’t have noticed them.
His expression shifted as he saw two burly men, armed with steel blades, attacking her with deadly precision. This was a vendetta.
The woman held her own, unfazed, countering with her blade.
Clanging metal echoed as the three fought fiercely by the roadside. Li Feng saw clearly: though evenly matched, the woman was outclassed in strength, skill, and experience. Her defeat was only a matter of time.
Sure enough, a misstep led to a deep gash on her shoulder, blood flowing freely.
“Die!” one man shouted, kicking her chest, sending her flying—toward Li Feng.
She crashed before him, looked up, and pleaded, “Save me.”
