Fo Zhu?
Seeing the newcomer, Li Feng could not help but freeze. Fo Zhu. It was actually Fo Zhu. How could it be him? Was he here to deal with me?
He knew perfectly well that Fo Zhu represented the National Security Bureau. If he personally made a move, that meant the Bureau was taking action against him. Could the National Security Bureau really intend to target him?
At this thought, Li Feng’s expression turned icy.
“Li Feng.” Just as Li Feng spotted Fo Zhu, Fo Zhu also noticed Li Feng.
“Fo Zhu, what are you doing here?” Li Feng’s eyes flickered. Whether the Bureau truly wanted to move against him or there was some other reason, until he clarified Fo Zhu’s intentions, he dared not lower his guard.
“What, do you want to make a move against me?” Fo Zhu glanced at the gun in Li Feng’s hand and gave a cold laugh.
“That’s the question I should be asking you. Fo Zhu, why are you at Tianya Pavilion at this hour? Don’t tell me you’re just passing by.” Li Feng replied coldly.
“Li Feng, I heard Tianya Pavilion had come under attack, so I came to take a look.” A heavy feeling settled in Fo Zhu’s heart. The sounds of fighting inside Tianya Pavilion had already stopped, and he had no idea how Wu De was faring.
“Is that so? You’re that kind-hearted, are you?” Li Feng sneered. From the moment Hu Yuanyuan launched her assault until now, not a single official had shown up. Li Feng was perfectly aware of what that implied.
Especially Fo Zhu, the current head of the National Security Bureau in Tianhai City. Every move in the city fell under his surveillance. He must have received news the instant Hu Yuanyuan was attacked, yet right up until Li Feng had slaughtered all the black-clothed assailants, not one person from the Bureau appeared. That almost certainly had a great deal to do with this Fo Zhu.
Thinking back to how Fo Zhu had repeatedly tried to recruit him into the Bureau, only to scheme against him after being refused, it was highly likely that the Bureau’s absence tonight was also because of that.
“Of course. When a citizen of China comes under attack, it is my duty to act.” Fo Zhu spoke without the slightest change in his expression or heartbeat. To him, these were nothing more than polite formalities; he could say whatever he pleased without feeling a thing.
“Now that you’ve seen everything, can you leave?” Li Feng gave another cold laugh. This was precisely the sort of conduct he expected from people in the National Security Bureau.
“Li Feng, I’d like to know, what happened to those assailants?” Fo Zhu asked.
“The assailants? What do you think?” Li Feng sneered, then holstered his gun. From Fo Zhu’s words, it was clear he had no intention of fighting, so there was no need to remain so wary. No one understood the Bureau’s way of doing things better than he did.
“They escaped?” Fo Zhu probed.
“Escaped?” Li Feng laughed coldly and said, “Fo Zhu, do you think the people who wanted to kill me would ever get the chance to escape?”
“So you captured them?” An ominous premonition rose in Fo Zhu’s heart.
“Capture them? Why would I bother capturing them? Fo Zhu, you seem very concerned about them. Are you connected to them in some way?” Li Feng raised an eyebrow, his gaze sharpening.
“I’m merely worried they might return.” Fo Zhu knew he had revealed too much, but he had no choice. Wu De was far too important; he absolutely could not allow anything to happen to him in Tianhai City.
“Return? Haha, Fo Zhu, they won’t have that opportunity, because they’re all dead.” Li Feng stared straight at Fo Zhu as he spoke.
“What? All dead?” Fo Zhu’s face changed dramatically.
Li Feng gave a cold laugh. Judging by Fo Zhu’s expression, if he claimed there was no connection between him and Wu De, Li Feng wouldn’t believe it even if he was beaten to death. Could tonight’s events be linked to Fo Zhu? Was Fo Zhu using Wu De to scheme against him because he had refused to join the Bureau?
That wasn’t impossible. Without someone like Fo Zhu pulling strings at the highest levels in Tianhai City, how could they have fought in the streets for so long without a single official appearing?
At this thought, Li Feng’s heart sank.
If it were anyone else, he could take revenge, but dealing with Fo Zhu would be difficult. Of course, it was also possible that tonight’s incident had nothing to do with Fo Zhu, and he had simply come to Tianya Pavilion because of Wu De.
Regardless of which was true, Li Feng resolved to investigate the matter thoroughly, no matter the cost.
“Li Feng, you killed every single one of them?” Fo Zhu fixed his eyes on Li Feng.
In that instant, Li Feng felt as though a ferocious wolf was staring at him. His heart involuntarily skipped a beat. This Fo Zhu really was strong.
“Correct. That includes Wu De. All of them are dead.” Li Feng said calmly.
“Li Feng, you should never have killed Wu De.” In a flash, a shocking aura burst from Fo Zhu’s body, locking onto Li Feng.
“Haha, so he’s allowed to kill me, but I’m not allowed to kill him? Where in the world is such logic to be found?” Li Feng looked at Fo Zhu coldly and continued, “Fo Zhu, it seems you came to Tianya Pavilion for Wu De’s sake. I’m rather curious. Why would a mere Wu De warrant you personally mobilising such forces? You’re not a member of the Wu family, are you?”
Fo Zhu was nothing more than a code name. It was perfectly natural for Li Feng to suspect he belonged to the Wu clan; otherwise, why would Fo Zhu care so much about one Wu De?
“Li Feng, do you realise you are courting death?” Murderous intent surged from Fo Zhu. Wu De was important because he was under state protection. The Wu family had been secretly nurtured by the state as a counter to the eight great top-tier families.
Wu De was the future heir of the Wu family, the vanguard against those eight families. His death would affect major plans from above.
On his way to Tianya Pavilion, Fo Zhu had already decided that if Wu De had fallen into Li Feng’s hands, he would rescue him at any cost, because Wu De was simply too vital.
He had never imagined Li Feng would actually kill him.
Fo Zhu didn’t doubt Li Feng’s words in the slightest. Li Feng was a decisive killer by nature. Once Wu De attacked Tianya Pavilion and landed in his hands, with Li Feng’s personality, death was certain. Fo Zhu had merely clung to a shred of hope.
“Haha, if I, Li Feng, am courting death, then come and kill me if you dare.” Li Feng laughed loudly. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as twin pistols appeared in his hands. If Fo Zhu wanted to fight, even if he couldn’t win, he would not wait helplessly for death.
Anger flared in Fo Zhu’s eyes, and an overwhelming aura pressed towards Li Feng.
At that moment, Fo Zhu genuinely intended to kill Li Feng, but he knew he could not bear the consequences of doing so personally. He could kill Li Feng, but he could not be the one to do it.
With that thought, Fo Zhu abruptly reined in his aura. The pressure that had reached half a metre in front of Li Feng vanished without a trace.
Li Feng secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He had genuinely feared Fo Zhu would attack. In his current state, he was no match for Fo Zhu; if it came to blows, he wouldn’t even have a chance to escape.
Though he didn’t know why Fo Zhu had held back at the final moment, that was irrelevant. As long as he survived this encounter, if Fo Zhu tried anything later, Li Feng was confident he could cut him down.
“Li Feng, you’d do well to watch yourself.” Fo Zhu gave a cold snort, turned, and left. He feared that if he would be unable to restrain himself from attacking if he remained any longer.
However, Wu De’s death would certainly cause shockwaves above. At this moment, he had no idea how to report it. After all, this incident stemmed from his own negligence. If he had assigned people to watch Wu De when he arrived in Tianhai City, none of this would have happened.
What Fo Zhu could not understand was why Wu De had chosen to provoke Li Feng of all people, and why Li Feng was bold enough to actually kill him.
At this moment, Fo Zhu knew it was impossible to bring Li Feng into the National Security Bureau. In the eyes of those above, Wu De’s value far exceeded Li Feng’s. They would never abandon the entire Wu family for his sake.
Moreover, Li Feng was so arrogant and looked down on everyone.
Since Li Feng could not be recruited, the plan had to change. A person with such formidable skills who refused to join the Bureau, he could only be eliminated.
A glint appeared in Fo Zhu’s eyes. He decided it was time to find a way to kill Li Feng. He absolutely could not allow Li Feng to remain alive in Tianhai City, and especially not to reach Yanjing alive.
Otherwise, with Li Feng’s strength combined with the Li family’s influence in Yanjing, the entire capital would be turned upside down.
Yet killing Li Feng without doing it himself was extremely troublesome, especially now that Li Feng was so powerful. In the whole of Tianhai City, very few people could stand against him.
“Boss, where are we going?”
Fo Zhu started, only then realising he had already left Tianya Pavilion without noticing.
“We’re going to meet someone.” Fo Zhu’s eyes flickered as he considered, then said.
“Who?” the young subordinate asked curiously.
“You’ll know when we get there. For now, drive to the Imperial Hotel.” Fo Zhu said in a low voice.
Inside Tianya Pavilion.
“Watch yourself?” Li Feng watched Fo Zhu leave and gave a cold laugh, a frosty light flashing in his eyes. How could he miss the threat in those words? But so what? Was he, Li Feng, supposed to be afraid? Let alone one Fo Zhu, he didn’t even fear the entire National Security Bureau.
Still, it was time to start making some preparations.
“Young Master Feng, he is…” Beside him, Su Kou, who had been frightened speechless by Fo Zhu’s aura earlier, finally spoke once Fo Zhu had gone.
“Just a ridiculous clown.” Li Feng smiled, glanced at Su Kou and said, “Su Kou, I need you to do something for me. Are you willing?”
“Young Master Feng, just give the order. I will not hesitate even in death.” Su Kou replied at once.
“Don’t agree so quickly. This is no small matter. It will take one to two years, and during that time you must live under a false identity.” Li Feng said gravely.
“Young Master Feng, I am willing.” Su Kou answered without a moment’s hesitation.
“Good. First, take care of things here tonight. Come find me tomorrow, and I will assign you your task. Don’t worry, your life won’t be in danger, and before you leave I will give you ten million as compensation. I will also arrange for someone to look after your family.” Li Feng said solemnly.
Hearing this, Su Kou was overjoyed and nodded vigorously.
