If there had been any doubt before, Chu Feng was now certain that those human-bodied, wolf-headed monsters were coming straight for the three of them.
What unsettled him most was that the killing intent washed over him as well. They had no intention of sparing him.
Swish.
Swish.
At that moment, the Black and White Evil Spirits behind him each took out a token.
The tokens were made of wood, yet they bore runes very similar to those on the map and the boundary gate.
The instant the tokens appeared, the monsters shifted their gaze away from the two elders.
Their ferocious, murder-filled eyes now locked solely onto one person: Chu Feng.
“It actually works. This thing was worth buying.”
Glancing at the tokens in their hands, the two elders breathed a sigh of relief. Then they looked at Chu Feng, the corners of their mouths curling into mocking smirks.
“Little brat, didn’t you say your grandfather is the master of this place? Then aren’t these monsters your servants?”
“Why does it look to me as though they don’t recognise you at all?”
The two elders taunted him coldly. They did not attack Chu Feng themselves; they simply stood back and enjoyed the show.
If they had earlier been intimidated by his words, they now knew beyond doubt that Chu Feng had been lying.
His grandfather was clearly not the master here, otherwise these monsters would not be approaching him filled with killing intent.
“Release me now and I’ll spare your lives.”
“Otherwise, neither of you will leave here alive.”
Chu Feng shouted at the two elders.
In truth, he wanted to stand up and escape.
The monsters were terrifying, but they were not moving particularly fast.
If he left right now, he could still save himself. The problem was that his body remained pinned by the pressure the two elders were exerting.
“Still trying to put on an act?”
“If you’re so powerful, why not call your servants to kill us?”
The elders jeered at him. As they spoke, they retreated until they stood at the entrance of the boundary gate.
Whether they feared being caught in the crossfire or simply wanted to block Chu Feng’s escape, he could not tell.
“Senior, only you can save me now.”
“Please don’t just stand by and watch.”
Seeing that he could no longer frighten the two elders, Chu Feng had no choice but to beg the divine deer inside his body for help.
“You’re really useless.”
To Chu Feng’s delight, the divine deer’s voice actually rang out.
The moment the voice sounded, Chu Feng’s figure turned into a streak of white light and vanished from the spot.
“Where did that brat go?”
Seeing Chu Feng disappear right under their noses, the two elders were stunned.
At first they panicked, worried that Chu Feng really did have some special connection to this secret ground.
But when they noticed that the monsters withdrew their killing intent the instant Chu Feng vanished, no longer advancing and instead lining up neatly along both walls, they relaxed.
They were clearly making way for the two of them.
This confirmed once and for all that Chu Feng had no connection to this place. The monsters had only stopped because he had fled.
He had simply used rather impressive means to escape, nothing more.
“It seems that brat is hiding some secrets after all.”
“Big brother, we can’t let him get away. We must catch him. He definitely has some supreme treasure on him, or he wouldn’t have escaped so quickly.”
The black-robed elder said.
“Yes.”
As the white-robed elder spoke, he took out a treasure and sealed the entrance of the boundary gate, precisely to prevent Chu Feng from fleeing.
After that, the two of them continued deeper inside.
When they drew near the monsters, they were extremely nervous.
Yet when they walked past them, the creatures showed no reaction, standing there like statues.
Only then did the two elders truly breathe easy.
“These tokens really are useful. That auction master didn’t lie to us.”
Looking at the tokens in their hands, they marvelled again.
They had obtained these tokens at the same time as the map.
In fact, the tokens had cost even more than the map itself.
Of course, they had been willing to pay the price because the auctioneer had told them that entering the secret ground would be dangerous, but these tokens would keep them safe.
At the time they had only half believed him, but now they were completely convinced.
Holding the tokens, the two elders strode boldly towards the depths of the secret ground as if they carried a death-exemption medal.
Chu Feng, however, had arrived at the very end of the secret ground one step ahead of them.
He had reached the end so quickly, naturally, because of the divine deer’s power.
The divine deer had helped him escape moments earlier.
Yet after bringing him here, the divine deer vanished once more.
“Senior, you might as well finish what you started. Why not take this junior out of here first?”
Chu Feng continued calling for the divine deer.
Although the great hall before him was magnificent, he could see no benefits whatsoever. The hall was completely empty. Apart from a single seat at the far end, there was nothing, no treasures, no special powers.
The corridor was long, but Chu Feng knew the two elders would arrive eventually.
If he went back alone, he would surely run into them.
The situation left him no room to hide.
Unless the divine deer was willing to carry him away, Chu Feng would most likely die here.
No matter how desperately he called, however, there was no reply.
Once again, the divine deer had abandoned him.
“It looks like I can only rely on myself.”
Left with no choice, Chu Feng took out the Heavenly Master Horsetail Whisk.
At present, the whisk showed no sign of awakening.
Without awakening, even if Chu Feng set up a powerful formation, he could not release power beyond his own level.
The situation was extremely dire. The divine deer refused to help, and the whisk refused to help.
That was why Chu Feng said he could only depend on himself.
He prepared to set up a concealment formation and try to hide once more.
Although the decision was incredibly risky, he had no other option at this point.
Holding the horsetail whisk, Chu Feng looked towards the corridor and prepared to begin the formation.
“I’ve finally been waiting for you.”
Yet at that very moment, a voice suddenly sounded behind him.
