Who was asking him for help?
Ye Qiu’s heart tightened. He immediately checked the phone number that sent the message, noticing it had only seven or eight digits, unlike the usual phone numbers.
He dialled the number at once.
“Sorry, the number you have dialled cannot be reached…”
What?
Puzzled, Ye Qiu quickly copied the number and sent it to Xiao Zhan, instructing, “Check this number now.”
In less than thirty seconds, Xiao Zhan called back, saying, “Boss, we can’t trace the number’s origin yet, but it’s definitely from abroad.”
Abroad?
Ye Qiu instantly thought of Qianshan Xue.
Could something have happened to Xue?
Tense, Ye Qiu hurriedly dialled Qiushan Nange’s number.
The call connected quickly.
“Ye Qiu, why are you calling me?” Qiushan Nange asked softly.
“Are you all okay?” Ye Qiu asked.
“We’re fine, what’s wrong?” Qiushan Nange replied.
“Nothing, just checking in,” Ye Qiu said, relieved. “I’ll come see you in a few days.”
“Great.”
After hanging up, Ye Qiu frowned.
Who sent that distress message?
Could it be a scam?
He asked Bai Bing, “Lin Sister and the colleagues at the Chinese Medicine Department, they’re all in Jiangzhou, right?”
Bai Bing said, “Jingzhi was away for a few days but is back now. The colleagues are working daily. Why?”
“Nothing,” Ye Qiu pocketed his phone, thinking it was likely a scam and paying it no further mind.
Bai Bing said, “Ye Qiu, what I told you earlier, you need to act on it, or I really can’t face anyone.”
“What’s that?” Ye Qiu asked, playing dumb.
“Taking Fairy Hundred Flowers and Lüluo as confidantes. Take it seriously. If you need me to do anything, just say.”
“Ice Sister, there’s one thing you can do now.”
Bai Bing asked, “You want me to apologise to Fairy Hundred Flowers?”
Ye Qiu nodded slightly.
“No problem,” Bai Bing agreed readily.
“Let’s go out then,” Ye Qiu said.
Bai Bing hesitated, “Can I not go out?”
“You’re apologising to Fairy Hundred Flowers. How can you not go?” Ye Qiu replied.
Reluctantly, Bai Bing got dressed, but her legs wobbled as she stood, nearly falling. Ye Qiu, quick on his feet, caught her.
She glared at him, “This is your fault.”
Ye Qiu grinned, “Not sure who was shouting and saying it felt good earlier…”
“Stop it,” Bai Bing blushed furiously. “Keep talking, and I won’t let you off.”
“Alright, shall we continue?”
“Pfft!”
Fearing Ye Qiu’s mischief, Bai Bing hurried out of the rest room. As she emerged, she saw three pairs of eyes on her.
Her face flushed. Bracing herself, she approached Fairy Hundred Flowers, “I was wrong earlier. I’m sorry.”
Fairy Hundred Flowers said, “No need to apologise. I was wrong too.”
“Um, Wan Sister, you stay with them. I’m leaving,” Bai Bing said, fleeing the scene.
When Ye Qiu stepped out, he glanced at Fairy Hundred Flowers and Lüluo.
Both women, recalling what they’d seen, blushed deeply, heads down, avoiding his gaze.
Ye Qiu acted as if nothing happened, saying, “Wan Sister, Fairy Hundred Flowers and Lüluo are friends from the cultivation world. They’re unfamiliar with this place. Please look after them these few days, help them get used to the environment.”
“Oh, and find them a place to stay.”
“They’ll be in the mortal world for a year.”
Qin Wan smiled, “Leave them to me. I’ll take good care of them.”
“Mm,” Ye Qiu nodded, then turned to Fairy Hundred Flowers and Lüluo, “This place is different from the cultivation world. Adapt quickly.”
“Also, every citizen here is bound by law. Don’t cause trouble or commit crimes. Listen to Wan Sister, understood?”
Lüluo nodded, “I understand.”
“And you?” Ye Qiu asked, seeing Fairy Hundred Flowers’ silence.
She looked up, and for some reason, meeting Ye Qiu’s eyes brought back that earlier scene, her heart racing.
She quickly lowered her head, murmuring, “Understood.”
“Good, I have things to do. I’m off,” Ye Qiu said, giving Qin Wan a look.
Qin Wan understood, saying, “Ladies, sit for a moment. I’ll see Ye Qiu out.”
She followed him.
In the corridor, Ye Qiu whispered, “Wan Sister, keep a close eye on them, especially Fairy Hundred Flowers. She’s got a bad temper. Don’t let her cause me trouble.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll watch them,” Qin Wan said. “Tonight, my place or yours?”
“Miss me?” Ye Qiu pulled her close, hands on her smooth waist. “Tonight, I…”
*Beep beep beep!*
His phone rang. It was War God.
Without thinking, Ye Qiu hung up.
“War God’s call, why not answer?” Qin Wan asked, puzzled.
“When I’m with you, I don’t want to take anyone’s call,” Ye Qiu said.
Qin Wan smiled, kissing his cheek.
*Beep beep beep!*
The phone rang again, War God calling. Ye Qiu was about to hang up, but Qin Wan stopped him.
“Answer it. It might be urgent,” she said.
Ye Qiu avoided War God’s calls to dodge trouble. He rejected the call, hugging Qin Wan, “Wan Sister, how about something different tonight?”
“What naughty idea now?” Qin Wan asked.
Ye Qiu smirked, “Wear a short skirt, less underneath, and we’ll go to the wild.”
“You big tease, always bullying me,” Qin Wan said, playfully hitting him. “I just bought a short skirt, washed but unworn…”
*Beep beep beep!*
The phone rang again.
“Damn it, why won’t he stop?” Ye Qiu grumbled.
“Answer it. War God keeps calling. It must be important,” Qin Wan said.
Ye Qiu picked up.
“You little brat, ignoring my calls? Getting cocky as War God of the Nation?” War God said, displeased.
“I’m busy. What’s up?” Ye Qiu asked.
“Come to Beijing immediately,” War God said.
“Now?” Ye Qiu blinked.
“Yes, now,” War God replied. “Elder Tang is waiting at the August First Building!”
