“There’s an inheritance ahead.”
Master Longbrow spoke and was the first to rush forward.
This time, it wasn’t a wooden box but a square wooden chest.
The chest was covered in a thick layer of dust, clearly having been there for a long time.
Master Longbrow dashed over and hugged the chest, saying, “The inheritance is mine. No one is allowed to snatch it from me.”
“No one’s fighting you for it. Open it and see,” Ye Qiu said.
Master Longbrow opened the chest and looked inside, only to see a divine bow placed within.
The bow was entirely green, engraved with many runes, and had an ancient design, clearly an object of great age.
“Indeed, a treasure.”
Master Longbrow was so delighted his mouth twisted into a grin. He reached out to grasp the bow, intending to lift it from the chest.
However, he couldn’t budge it.
The bow was like a mountain, impossibly heavy.
“How is this possible?”
Unconvinced, Master Longbrow summoned all his strength, but the bow still didn’t move an inch.
“Unbelievable. I can’t even lift it.”
Master Longbrow wasn’t discouraged; instead, he grew excited. If even he, with his current cultivation, couldn’t lift it, it only meant the bow was no ordinary item.
“Old man, didn’t you eat? How can you not lift a single bow?” Ye Qiu mocked, seeing Master Longbrow struggle for so long without success.
“You know nothing,” Master Longbrow said. “This bow is too heavy.”
“I’ll help you,” Ye Qiu said, stepping forward.
“Stay back,” Master Longbrow looked at Ye Qiu warily, worried he might steal the treasure. “I don’t need your help.”
Ye Qiu, knowing full well what Master Longbrow was thinking, said, “Relax, I won’t steal it from you.”
“I still don’t need your help,” Master Longbrow insisted, unconvinced. “Step back.”
“How about letting Moon help you?” Ye Qiu suggested. “Moon has the strength of the early Cave Heaven realm. She’s quite strong.”
Master Longbrow’s eyes lit up, but then he shook his head vigorously and said, “She’s with you. I don’t want her help.”
Ye Qiu said, “Fine, let’s see how you lift this bow on your own.”
Master Longbrow thought for a moment and said, “Miss Green, would you lend me a hand?”
Among the group, he trusted only Green not to steal the treasure, as they had secretly formed an alliance.
“Sure.”
Green softly agreed, then walked to the chest and gripped the bow. Together with Master Longbrow, they exerted their strength.
“Up!”
Master Longbrow shouted loudly.
This time, he used every ounce of his strength, veins bulging on his neck, his old face turning red.
Green also put in all her effort.
Yet, the bow still didn’t move.
A moment later.
“Master, give up. This bow is too heavy. It won’t budge,” Green said.
“Looks like I’ll have to store it for now,” Master Longbrow said, preparing to use his spatial ring to take the bow.
Unexpectedly, when Green let go, her middle finger accidentally brushed the bowstring, cutting her skin.
“Ouch,” Green cried out in pain.
“What’s wrong?” Fairy Hundred Flowers asked.
“Just a small cut,” Green said, raising her finger. At that moment, a drop of blood fell onto the bowstring.
Buzz!
Suddenly, a fierce wind rose, kicking up sand and stones, and the cave echoed with the sound of wind and thunder.
“What’s happening?”
The group was startled.
The next second, the divine bow flew out of the chest on its own, hovering in the air, releasing a terrifying killing intent.
Thud!
Master Longbrow couldn’t withstand it and fell to his knees, his bones nearly breaking.
Fairy Hundred Flowers resisted desperately, but it was futile. The killing intent was too strong, as if it could extinguish all life in the world. She, too, was about to collapse to her knees.
Ye Qiu reacted the fastest. The moment the killing intent appeared, he activated his Nine Revolutions Dragon Art, but even so, he couldn’t withstand it.
His kneecaps nearly shattered, and his back bent under the pressure.
“Boom!”
Suddenly, a Qiankun Cauldron flew out on its own, seemingly sensing its master’s danger. It hovered above Ye Qiu’s head, casting down rays of golden light.
Instantly, Ye Qiu felt the killing intent vanish, as if a great weight had been lifted. He quickly pulled Fairy Hundred Flowers to his side.
“Old man, get over here,” Ye Qiu shouted.
Master Longbrow was sprawled on the ground, trembling, but his eyes remained fixed on the bow in the air.
“Strange, how did it come out on its own?”
As Master Longbrow wondered, the runes on the bow lit up. Then, the bow rapidly shrank and, with lightning speed, shot into Green’s forehead.
Green’s body trembled as she realized the bow had settled in her mind.
“It… chose me as its master?”
Green was overjoyed.
After the bow recognized its master, the cave returned to calm.
“My treasure…”
Master Longbrow wailed in heartache. The bow was supposed to be his, but it had chosen Green instead.
Ye Qiu noticed a piece of parchment at the bottom of the chest. He picked it up, and it bore three characters.
“God-Slaying Bow!”
Ye Qiu read aloud.
“What? That bow is the God-Slaying Bow?” Fairy Hundred Flowers said, shocked. “Green, congratulations on obtaining a sacred weapon.”
“Sacred weapon?” Green asked, puzzled.
Fairy Hundred Flowers explained, “The God-Slaying Bow is a weapon of a sage. It’s said that Elder Tianfeng once used this bow to kill a sage-level powerhouse. Legend has it that merely drawing the bowstring summons a divine arrow.”
“However, with your current cultivation, you can’t draw the bowstring. You’ll likely need to reach the Divine Connection realm to use it.”
“The God-Slaying Bow was always in Elder Tianfeng’s possession. If I’m not mistaken, the owner of this tomb is likely Elder Tianfeng.”
“Elder Tianfeng was a legendary figure. It’s said he wasn’t particularly gifted in his youth, but somehow, he rose suddenly to become a sage-level powerhouse.”
“Some say he was taken as a disciple by a mysterious master, inheriting their legacy. Others say he had a fortunate encounter and obtained a supreme treasure. There are even tales that he gained the bloodline of a divine beast, soaring to greatness.”
“In short, Elder Tianfeng was formidable.”
“Not only was his cultivation profound, but he was also an exceptionally skilled alchemist. He had an eccentric personality, a lone wanderer. Though a rogue cultivator, none of the major sects in the Eastern Wasteland dared provoke him lightly.”
Hearing this, Master Longbrow felt a pang of regret and said, “Why didn’t I think of blood-binding at the start? I missed out on a sacred weapon. I hate myself.”
Ye Qiu said, “This was Green’s destiny. Accept it.”
Master Longbrow declared, “The next inheritance we find, none of you can compete with me, or don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
With that, Master Longbrow stormed deeper into the cave, fuming.
