Nangong Jingyun suddenly appeared right in front of Ye Qiu and pressed her palm onto the crown of his head.
In that instant, an icy, sinister energy enveloped him completely, turning his entire body freezing cold.
Nangong Jingyun’s face, now inches away, twisted into a sinister smile. “Little boy, since you won’t talk, I’ll just have to soul-search you.”
“No matter what treasures you have or what secrets you’re hiding, I’ll know everything very soon.”
True Person Longbrow transmitted urgently, “Little brat, hurry and make the young qilin offer its essence blood! Use the Cosmos Cauldron to blast her to death!”
Ye Qiu had no other choice and was about to communicate with the young qilin inside the Cosmos Bag when the little white fox’s voice rang in his ear.
“Ye Changsheng, do not resist. Let her search your soul.”
Ye Qiu flew into a rage. “Whose side are you on exactly? Have you no conscience? If I die, you won’t live either!”
“Ye Changsheng, trust me.” The little white fox’s tone was earnest. “With me here, she won’t succeed.”
“You can help me? Don’t make me laugh.” Ye Qiu didn’t believe it for a second. The fox’s cultivation was even lower than his; how could it possibly contend with a saint?
“Ye Changsheng, please trust me just this once. I’m begging you.” The little fox pleaded.
Suddenly Ye Qiu remembered what Old Nine had said.
“Old Nine said that at the critical moment it would help me, that it would give me a huge surprise. Could this little fox really have some method to deal with a saint?”
Ye Qiu didn’t trust the fox, but he trusted Old Nine.
Old Nine loved to brag, yet his abilities were genuine.
“Fine. I’ll trust you just this once. But remember, if I die, you’re coming with me.” Then he asked, “What exactly are you planning?”
“No need to ask. You’ll find out very soon.” The little white fox sounded mysterious. “Ye Changsheng, I’m going to give you a nice surprise in a moment.”
Ye Qiu said, “I hope it’s not a nasty shock. I’ve already put my life in your paws, so go easy.”
The little fox replied, “Just relax completely. Empty your mind.”
“Let her search your soul.”
“Put ten thousand hearts at ease. You won’t die. I’ll protect you.”
Only then did Ye Qiu look straight at Nangong Jingyun and say coldly, “Old hag, you won’t learn a thing from me.”
“What did you say?” Nangong Jingyun’s expression changed abruptly.
“I said, you old hag, you won’t learn a thing from me.”
“Aaaargh!” Nangong Jingyun shrieked in fury. “You dare call me old? I’m going to kill you—”
“Fairy, calm yourself!” Li Chaohui hurriedly interjected. “The kid is deliberately provoking you. Don’t fall for it. Search his soul quickly.”
Nangong Jingyun took a deep breath, suppressed her anger, and said frostily, “Boy, you called me old. You’re dead.”
“You’re dead the moment I finish searching your soul.”
Hum!
Brilliant light burst from her palm, completely enveloping Ye Qiu’s head.
In that instant Ye Qiu felt as though ten thousand ants were gnawing at his scalp. His primordial spirit throbbed with unbearable agony.
He clenched his teeth and refused to make a sound.
“I didn’t expect you to be so tough. Let’s see how long you last.”
A cruel smile curved Nangong Jingyun’s lips. The power in her palm intensified.
Ye Qiu felt as though his soul were being flayed alive by sharp blades. His body shook uncontrollably from the pain.
Seeing him suffer, Nangong Jingyun laughed with delight. “Boy, just you wait. When I’m done, I’ll carve you into a thousand pieces.”
True Person Longbrow cursed loudly, “You old witch! If you’ve got the guts, pick on this daoist instead!”
“This daoist is hard all over, especially in certain places.”
“Come on, let’s go eight hundred rounds. I’ll have you kneeling and begging for mercy.”
“Filthy daoist, die!” Nangong Jingyun roared. She raised her other hand to strike Longbrow.
BOOM!
At that very moment, a hurricane-like fluctuation erupted.
A sheet of emerald-green light, accompanied by searing heat, poured from Ye Qiu’s body and instantly engulfed Nangong Jingyun.
“Aaah…”
Nangong Jingyun let out a blood-curdling scream. She staggered backwards and began rolling on the ground.
The sudden reversal stunned both Ye Qiu and Longbrow. When they looked closer, they saw that the green light was actually a strange flame.
Nangong Jingyun had become a human torch. She shot into the sky, shrieking and thrashing in utter misery.
Ye Qiu was dumbfounded. What kind of flame was this, capable of burning a saint into such a state?
“Ye Changsheng, how’s that? Am I awesome or what?” The little white fox’s smug voice rang in his ear.
“That was you?” Ye Qiu asked, stunned. He was about to question it further when Li Chaohui’s shocked cry came from the void.
“Demon fire! That’s demon fire!” Li Chaohui pointed at Ye Qiu and bellowed, “Ye Changsheng, just who are you? How do you possess demon fire?”
True Person Longbrow instantly understood. “Little brat, don’t tell me it was that…”
Before he could finish, dazzling divine light exploded from Nangong Jingyun’s body. Somehow she had activated a secret art. The light soared into the heavens like a rain of radiance that instantly cooled the air.
In the blink of an eye, the flames on her body were extinguished.
But her left arm and the entire lower half of her body had been burnt away. The remaining flesh was charred black. Her hair was gone, her once-fair face now pitch-black and monstrous. All her former charm had vanished.
The little white fox sighed. “That old hag has some tricks after all.”
“I wanted to burn her to death with demon fire, but it seems my plan failed.”
“Still, the demon fire was pretty good. She won’t recover those lost limbs any time soon.”
“Ye Changsheng, don’t be afraid. Since the fire didn’t kill her, this fox will finish her off personally.”
Ye Qiu said, “Even injured, she’s still a saint.”
The little white fox scoffed. “A saint? Nothing impressive. The moment she met me, her doomsday arrived.”
“Keep bragging!” Ye Qiu didn’t believe it. The fox’s cultivation was pathetically low. If it hadn’t ambushed her, even risking its life it could never have been Nangong Jingyun’s match.
“You little beast, you dared to ambush me! I’ll take your life!” Nangong Jingyun roared. She shot forward through the air, her remaining right hand reaching for Ye Qiu’s throat like claws.
BANG!
Suddenly, a tiny, fluffy paw appeared out of nowhere and smashed into Nangong Jingyun’s jaw. With a crisp crack, her jaw shattered, blood sprayed, and her body was sent flying sideways.
“What?” Ye Qiu’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. The little white fox had actually injured a saint?
“This… how is this possible!”
