Ye Wudi raised an eyebrow. “Why are you keeping Ye Qiu? Have you taken a liking to him?”
Ye Qiu was utterly speechless.
Third Uncle, can’t you see this tigress wants to kill me?
The Dragon Lady smiled at Ye Wudi. “You’re mistaken. My heart belongs to you alone. How could I fancy another man?”
“Then why keep him?” Ye Wudi asked.
Her voice turned icy. “This kid killed my subordinates. I want to kill him to avenge them.”
Ye Wudi stepped in front of Ye Qiu. “I won’t let you kill him.”
The Dragon Lady said, “But he killed my people.”
“So what?” Ye Wudi retorted. “Ye Qiu wasn’t the only one who killed your subordinates. I was involved too.”
“I don’t blame you,” the Dragon Lady said softly. “But everyone else must die.”
Ye Wudi declared, “If you want to kill Ye Qiu, you’ll have to step over my corpse.”
The Dragon Lady said with a conflicted tone, “Ye Wudi, you’re making this very difficult for me, you know?”
“I want to kill him, but you’re protecting him.”
“What am I supposed to do?”
She blinked her almond-shaped eyes and said gently to Ye Wudi, “How about this? If you marry me, I won’t kill him.”
“Are you threatening me?” Ye Wudi snapped. “I’ll have you know, I fear no threats.”
“So, will you marry me or not?” The Dragon Lady was losing patience.
“No,” Ye Wudi replied curtly.
“Since you won’t marry me, don’t stop me from killing.” With that, the Dragon Lady soared through the air towards Ye Qiu.
Clang!
The Great Xia Dragon Sparrow was unsheathed.
Ye Wudi swiftly slashed at the Dragon Lady.
No mercy.
She easily dodged the blade, her body twirling like a willow fluff in the air. She aimed a palm at the back of Ye Qiu’s head.
Her speed was unbelievable.
Ye Qiu didn’t dare confront her directly. While dodging, he said, “Dragon Lady, don’t you want Ye Wudi to marry you? I can help you.”
She paused and asked, “How can you help me?”
“Hold on.” Ye Qiu pulled Ye Wudi aside and whispered, “Third Uncle, just marry her!”
Ye Wudi’s face was stern. “I don’t like her. Why would I marry her?”
“Do it for me,” Ye Qiu pleaded. “Third Uncle, if you marry her, she won’t kill me.”
“Otherwise, she’ll kill me.”
“Besides, she’s young and beautiful. You wouldn’t be losing out.”
“You know nothing!” Ye Wudi said irritably. “She’s not young at all. If I’m right, she’s at least forty or fifty.”
“She only looks young and beautiful because she’s using some kind of youth-preserving technique.”
“Women over thirty are considered high-risk for childbirth. At her age, if I married her, she wouldn’t be able to have kids, and I’d have to take care of her. How is that not a loss?”
Ye Qiu was dumbfounded.
So, after all this, Ye Wudi’s refusal to marry the Dragon Lady was because he worried she was too old to bear children.
What a thought process…
Ye Qiu laughed. “Third Uncle, age isn’t an issue. Have you forgotten my profession?”
“I’m a divine doctor!”
“If you want kids, I can help. From my professional perspective, the Dragon Lady’s body is not only fine but extremely healthy. She could easily have one child, or even three.”
Ye Wudi glanced back at the Dragon Lady. “Even so, I won’t marry her.”
“Why not?” Ye Qiu asked, puzzled.
Ye Wudi said, “She’s not from Hua Nation. Your grandfather once said that we Ye family men can only marry women from Hua Nation, not foreigners.”
Ye Qiu couldn’t help but laugh and cry. “How is marrying a foreign woman pandering to foreigners? It’s clearly bringing glory to our country!”
“Third Uncle, my life is in your hands right now. If you agree to marry her, she won’t kill me.”
“If Grandfather blames you later, I’ll explain to him. I’m sure he won’t make things difficult for you.”
“And also…”
“Enough. No matter what you say, I won’t marry her,” Ye Wudi grumbled. “I’m Elder Tang’s bodyguard, always by his side. If I married, how could I do my job?”
“She’s so beautiful, like a fairy. If I didn’t stay by her side, how could I be at ease?”
“If she cheated on me, wouldn’t that make me a laughingstock?”
Ye Qiu was exasperated. “Third Uncle, you’re Ye Wudi, a man of the Ye family. Who in the world would dare cheat on you?”
“And the Dragon Lady is a tigress. Who would dare try to woo her?”
“Why is your brain so stubborn and inflexible?”
Ye Wudi remained unmoved. “I won’t marry her.”
“At least, not before the battle with the Forbidden City.”
“I don’t want my wife to become a widow.”
Ye Qiu finally understood.
This was Ye Wudi’s true concern.
He lacked confidence in the upcoming battle, fearing that if he married and died in the fight, his wife would be left a widow.
At this point, Ye Qiu couldn’t press further. He quietly began drawing a lightning talisman behind his back, then looked at the Dragon Lady with a regretful expression. “I’m sorry, Ye Wudi still won’t marry you.”
“But I found out why. He won’t marry you because he has a powerful enemy.”
“Ye Wudi fears he might die at that enemy’s hands, leaving you a widow.”
“He’s worried about ruining your life, so he refuses to marry you.”
“Of course, it’s not entirely hopeless. If Ye Wudi defeats his enemy, you two might still have a chance.”
“I’ve said all I can.”
“Dragon Lady, I hope you can spare me.”
Ye Qiu pleaded.
He really didn’t want to fight her. This tigress was too terrifying, and he had no chance of winning.
“Thank you for finding out the reason, but I still have to avenge my subordinates.” The Dragon Lady’s killing intent suddenly surged.
“Wait!”
Ye Qiu shouted, “Can you give me one minute? I want to say a few things to Ye Wudi before I die.”
“Fine,” the Dragon Lady agreed.
Ye Qiu looked at Ye Wudi and said, “Third Uncle, this could have been resolved easily. If you married her, I could have lived, but you refused. Isn’t that just pushing her to kill me?”
“Third Uncle, for the sake of my life, couldn’t you make a small sacrifice?”
“Since you did this wrong, don’t blame me.”
Ye Wudi didn’t understand. “Blame you for what?”
“Swoosh—”
The next moment, Ye Qiu’s body shot towards the Northern Territory like a bolt of lightning.
As for Ye Wudi, he was left behind.
