Ye Qiu turned around.
The next second, surprise appeared on his face.
“It’s you!”
The person calling him was none other than Xu Changjin, whom Ye Qiu had treated for a leg injury at the Confucius Temple two days ago.
Xu Changjin was wearing a white T-shirt, tight jeans, her waist slender, and her legs long and straight.
She had a baseball cap on her head, looking youthful and radiant.
“Why are you here?” Ye Qiu asked.
“I’m studying here!” Xu Changjin said with a smile.
When she smiled, two dimples appeared on her pink cheeks, making her look sweet and charming.
“Are you a student at Jinling University?”
“Yes, an international student in the Chinese language programme.”
An international student?
Ye Qiu was taken aback.
This girl was a foreigner?
Xu Changjin walked up to Ye Qiu and said, “Dr. Ye, your medical skills are amazing.”
“Only my medical skills are amazing? Don’t you think I’m also quite handsome?” Ye Qiu teased.
Whoosh.
Xu Changjin’s face turned red, but she still nodded, “Yes, you’re quite handsome.”
What a shy little beauty.
Ye Qiu chuckled to himself and asked, “It’s the Mid-Autumn Festival today, so you should have a holiday. The school made you come to watch the competition, didn’t the students have a lot of complaints?”
“No, no,” Xu Changjin quickly waved her hands.
“Really none?” Ye Qiu looked at Xu Changjin, somewhat sceptical.
Xu Changjin’s face grew even redder as she said, “Actually, at first, the students did have a tiny bit of complaints. It’s rare to get three days off, and everyone had planned to go out and have fun. But after watching the competition, all the dissatisfaction disappeared.”
“How should I put it? This competition wasn’t boring at all, it felt really exciting.”
“It was even better than a Hollywood blockbuster.”
Xu Changjin asked curiously, “Dr. Ye, how are your medical skills so impressive?”
Ye Qiu smiled, “Some people are born extraordinary, do you believe that?”
Xu Changjin nodded, “I believe it, Dr. Ye, you’re that kind of person.”
Well, this little beauty was easy to fool.
Ye Qiu asked Xu Changjin, “How old are you?”
“Twenty,” Xu Changjin replied, then asked Ye Qiu, “Dr. Ye, how old are you?”
Ye Qiu said, “A boy’s age is a secret, I usually don’t tell others…”
Before he could finish, Xu Changjin hurriedly said, “Dr. Ye, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend.”
Ye Qiu changed tack, “Although I usually don’t tell others my age, I can tell you. I’m twenty-four and a half this year.”
Xu Changjin felt a secret joy in her heart.
Dr. Ye was willing to tell her his age, didn’t that mean he already considered her a friend?
If Ye Qiu knew what she was thinking, he’d probably be speechless.
To him, his age wasn’t a secret at all, he just wanted to tease Xu Changjin, not expecting her to take it seriously.
This little beauty was so innocent.
Xu Changjin added, “Dr. Ye, two days ago at the Confucius Temple, you left too quickly, I didn’t even have a chance to thank you.”
Ye Qiu smiled faintly, “It was a small effort, not worth mentioning.”
“No, I must thank you,” Xu Changjin said earnestly, “My teacher said, a drop of kindness should be repaid with a fountain.”
Ye Qiu couldn’t help but want to laugh and asked, “Have you thought about how you’re going to thank me?”
Xu Changjin shook her head, “I haven’t figured it out yet.”
Ye Qiu said, “How about pledging yourself to me?”
Instantly, Xu Changjin’s ears turned red with shyness, her hands clutching the hem of her clothes, unsure how to respond to Ye Qiu.
“Hahaha, I’m just joking,” Ye Qiu laughed, “If you really want to thank me, how about showing me around the campus? I love the university atmosphere.”
Xu Changjin felt a pang of disappointment but readily agreed.
“Sure, Dr. Ye, follow me.”
With that, Xu Changjin led Ye Qiu around Jinling University’s campus.
The two, a talented man and a beautiful woman, looked like a couple.
As they passed by, they attracted a lot of attention.
“Oh my gosh, Xu Changjin has a boyfriend?”
“What’s so surprising about that? She’s the campus belle, so pretty, it’d be strange if she didn’t have a boyfriend.”
“But her boyfriend is Ye Qiu!”
“Which Ye Qiu?”
“The doctor who competed with the Korean Medical Sage today.”
“What, Xu Changjin is Ye Qiu’s girlfriend? Ahhh, so jealous~”
Xu Changjin stole a glance at Ye Qiu, hesitating to speak.
Ye Qiu noticed her expression and smiled, “Just say whatever’s on your mind.”
Xu Changjin then said, “Dr. Ye, I think a medical competition is a form of cultural exchange. Regardless of who wins or loses, it’s better if no one dies.”
Ye Qiu already knew Xu Changjin was Korean and asked, “Are you pleading for Li Zhengxi?”
Xu Changjin fell silent.
She did have that intention.
“You’re really kind,” Ye Qiu continued, “But unfortunately, everyone must take responsibility for their words and actions. Publicly proposing to take his own life was Li Zhengxi’s idea.”
In other words, pleading with me is useless.
Xu Changjin’s face fell.
Could it really be that only death would end this China-Korea medical dispute?
…
Jinling, a luxury hotel.
In the presidential suite.
The Korean medical delegation gathered together, discussing strategies.
Li Minghan said, “Everyone saw what happened at today’s competition, I don’t need to say much about the results.”
“I’ve called you all here to ask if you have any good ideas.”
“Don’t hold back, speak freely.”
After his words, the group started talking.
“Honestly, the results of these two matches today were completely beyond my expectations.”
“No kidding, who would’ve thought it’d turn out like this?”
“We always heard people say Chinese medicine is rubbish, but seeing it today, Chinese medicine is far from rubbish.”
“Not only is it not rubbish, it’s incredibly miraculous.”
“Especially that Ye Qiu, healing a comminuted fracture in just a few minutes, absolutely phenomenal!”
“I’m kind of tempted to learn Chinese medicine…”
Smack!
Li Zhengxi slammed his hand on the table, furious, “I asked Minghan to call you here, not to analyse how great Chinese medicine is.”
“I called you here to help me come up with a plan.”
“The next match is critical, we can only win, not lose. You must help me devise a foolproof strategy.”
“Otherwise, if I lose tomorrow, none of you will have it easy either.”
Li Minghan added, “All of you owe your current success to my father.”
“You could say we’re all grasshoppers on the same rope, we rise together, we fall together.”
“If my father loses the competition, you’ll lose your backing, and it’ll be impossible to get by in Korea.”
“So, we must work together, come up with a good plan, and help my father defeat Ye Qiu.”
After Li Minghan spoke, someone chimed in.
“Ye Qiu is just too strong, defeating him won’t be easy.”
“The Medical Sage has already lost two matches, even if we win the next one, it won’t change anything.”
“As for a foolproof strategy, I can’t think of one!”
Bang!
Li Minghan smashed a glass on the floor, raging, “Useless, all of you are useless.”
“Raising an army for a thousand days, only to find none of you are reliable when it matters.”
“A bunch of good-for-nothings!”
Li Minghan quickly tried to calm him, “Father, don’t be angry, I’ve actually thought of an idea.”
Li Zhengxi asked, “What idea?”
Li Minghan whispered, “Father, let’s flee!”
