Rewrite My Youth Chapter 1124

It’s over!

Totally screwed!

Wang Shuang’s scalp went numb; his brain blue-screened.

No reply from him. On the other end, Hang Xiaowen was still going “Hello? Hello?” Wang Shuang uncovered the mouthpiece and roared, “Hang Xiaowen, are you annoying or what?! Do you really think I’m an idiot? I blocked you to save you some face. Don’t push it! If you keep harassing me, I’ll report you to the department head!”

Hang Xiaowen was thunderstruck, completely speechless.

Wang Shuang didn’t care what she thought; he hung up straight away.

Wen Ying’s office door was shut tight.

The room had been soundproofed especially well for writing. Wang Shuang pressed his ear to the door and could only hear muffled voices, nothing clear.

He was frantic, knocked twice—no answer.

Then a text from Wen Ying: Stop knocking. Mengjiao won’t let me open the door.

He was like an ant on a hot pan.

Li Mengjiao was definitely, definitely furious!

Wang Shuang muttered miserably to himself, “Didn’t someone once complain to me that idol drama plots are stupid? The guy wants to explain, but the girl just goes ‘I’m not listening, I’m not listening!’ I want to explain too!!”

Compared to the embarrassment of his failed start-up, making Li Mengjiao angry was a far worse consequence.

If he’d known it would turn out like this, he should’ve just confessed from the start…

His brain was chaos. Wang Shuang had never mastered multitasking. Right now every neuron was devoted to how to stop Li Mengjiao being angry; he had zero spare capacity to wonder why she was angry.

She didn’t even know he’d lost 400,000. Clearly she’d misunderstood his relationship with Hang Xiaowen.

He was a grown man now. He’d had “girlfriends” before. What was wrong with dating someone?!

Inside the office,

Wen Ying quietly listened until Li Mengjiao had vented everything.

When emotions ran high, Li Mengjiao’s eyes were still glistening.

Wen Ying handed her a tissue. “So… what exactly are you angry about?”

That stumped Li Mengjiao.

The big-hearted girl swallowed back her almost-tears, blew her nose hard into the tissue, and said stuffily, “I’m angry he’s useless! Everyone else is doing proper things, and he’s the only one with no direction!”

“Oh…”

Wen Ying dragged out the syllable. “You’re in such a hurry to become a mom?”

“Huh?”

Li Mengjiao’s nose was still red; she was too furious with Wang Shuang to catch the teasing.

“Wang Shuang isn’t your son. Why are you so mad and trying to control him? Isn’t that basically practising to be a mom in advance?”

Li Mengjiao was speechless.

Exactly. Wang Shuang wasn’t her son—why was she policing him?

She hurriedly defended herself, “As a friend, I can’t stand seeing him act like this, can I? If he’s going to date, date properly! Treating feelings so casually—he’s a total scumbag!”

Hang Xiaowen’s words had indeed been very easy to misunderstand.

Accusing Wang Shuang of ignoring messages and calls, deliberately avoiding her—it made Hang Xiaowen sound exactly like the dumped party after a breakup!

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all.

“I think you should hear Wang Shuang’s side,” Wen Ying said.

She had been about to tease a bit more, but was afraid she’d actually make the girl cry—and then she’d have to comfort her. Why should she clean up Wang Shuang’s mess?!

Before Li Mengjiao could object, Wen Ying strode over and yanked the door open.

THUD!

Wang Shuang, who had been glued to the door, tumbled inside.

He looked up. Li Mengjiao was glaring daggers, eyes red, nose red. His heart turned to mush.

She’d cried?!

“Hey, it’s really not what you think! She’s just a senior from school. A few of us started a business together and it fell apart!”

Thank heavens he wasn’t a stammerer—he could actually get the words out at the critical moment!

“Senior? Started a business?”

Li Mengjiao’s eyes widened further.

“Yeah, a group of us tried a business together…”

Wang Shuang scrambled to his feet. Wen Ying gave a light cough. “You two talk. I’ll step out.”

A third wheel has to know when to wheel away. Wen Ying slipped out and considerately closed the door behind her.

Li Mengjiao’s assistant was deeply worried.

Assistants have to be invisible when needed. While Wang Shuang was showing Li Mengjiao and Wen Ying around, the assistant had obediently checked out her own workstation.

She’d been very satisfied with it.

She came back just in time to witness Li Mengjiao’s rage.

Wang Shuang had been eavesdropping at the door, so the assistant could only shrink into a corner.

When Wen Ying emerged, the assistant hurried over anxiously. “Director Yuan said Mengjiao isn’t allowed to date right now—”

Wen Ying blinked. “Which eye of yours saw them dating?”

They’re not?

Then why did Wang Shuang text Li Mengjiao every day like a long-distance boyfriend checking in?

The assistant wanted to say she wasn’t blind, but swallowed it.

Yuan Fenghui was Tianjiao’s director and company manager.

Li Mengjiao was special—not only a top star but the big boss’s daughter.

But Wang Shuang was a shareholder too!

If a shareholder wanted to secretly date a company artist, what could a tiny assistant do?

She nodded vigorously, not sure if she was convincing Wen Ying or herself. “You’re right, they’re just good friends. Being close is perfectly normal!”

Wen Ying’s eyes curved with laughter. “Actually, whether they’re dating or not doesn’t matter. They’ve known each other forever. Even if they fight a hundred times, it won’t hurt their foundation. Wang Shuang would never lie to or hurt her… You’re a smart girl; you get what I mean, right?”

The assistant fell into thought.

True!

Even if they did date, childhood friends with years of history, tied together by the company and their parents’ friendship—Wang Shuang wouldn’t dare bully Mengjiao.

If they forcibly blocked this and Mengjiao looked elsewhere for romance, everyone would worry themselves sick.

Male stars in the industry rarely took feelings seriously!

Rich playboys were the same!

The assistant saw the light. “You’re so wise!”

—sob sob, there really is an intelligence gap between people. That’s why Wen Ying is a bestselling author and I’m just an assistant.

When the office door finally opened, the assistant looked at Wang Shuang and suddenly found him exceptionally handsome and clear-eyed.

Wang Shuang walked out first, head hanging like a kicked puppy. Li Mengjiao followed behind, chin high like a victorious queen.

When the queen’s eyes met Wen Ying’s, she actually looked a little embarrassed and cleared her throat loudly. “It’s late. Let’s head back to the hotel!”

Wen Ying raised a brow. “Did Wang Shuang explain everything?”

Li Mengjiao gave a silly laugh. “Yep, he’s just a complete idiot… No matter how pitiful his story, I’m not lending him money for a second start-up!”

Wen Ying: (⊙_⊙)?

Assistant: (O_o)??

Wang Shuang: ⊙▃⊙!!

Wen Ying suddenly felt infinite pity for Wang Shuang!
