Really cannot meet?
Xie Qian desperately wanted to answer “yes”.
He truly found it hard to refuse any request from his little hamster, even unreasonable ones. If the hamster persisted, more often than not, he would adjust his own principles and bottom line for her. However, this time, they really could not meet.
He had heard that the night he stood her up, Wen Ying cried for a long time.
The waiters at that restaurant had seen all sorts, yet even after more than twenty days, they still remembered Wen Ying.
When they received another call from “Mr Xie”, one waiter even felt indignant on Wen Ying’s behalf.
Miss Wen was so lovely. How could anyone bear to stand her up?
Bitterness filled Xie Qian’s heart. He did not even want to say harsh words to his hamster, so how could he bear to stand her up?
Just like now, if he hesitated for two more seconds, he feared he would change his mind. He hardened his heart and refused Wen Ying.
“I have already boarded the plane. The cabin door is closed. The plane will taxi soon, so…”
“So, we cannot meet, right?”
“Yes.”
Xie Qian feared hearing Wen Ying cry. Over the phone, her breathing did indeed quicken, then slowly calmed.
“If we really cannot meet, that is fine. When you reach abroad, we can still keep in touch, right? I mean, at least we can maintain contact by email, like when I was travelling!”
Xie Qian agreed immediately. “Of course we can stay in touch. I promise the situation where you could not reach me before will never happen again.”
“Alright then.”
Wen Ying agreed reluctantly.
She did not ask when Xie Qian would return to the country. She knew even he could not be sure.
But she knew he would definitely come back.
Wen Ying sniffled. “Then take good care of yourself abroad. If you encounter any difficulties, you must tell me. Even if I cannot help, I can at least give you some advice.”
“Yes, I know. Actually, I wanted to tell you something a few days ago, but you were travelling, so I did not. Now I can tell you… Zhang Zhijun’s wife, Lu Meishu, committed suicide some time ago. It was on the very night Zhang Zhijun agreed to the divorce. She took her own life alone in the bathroom, and was only discovered the next day.”
It had to be said, Xie Qian understood Wen Ying well enough. This news he had held back for days instantly diverted her attention.
“Are you sure it was suicide?”
“That is the conclusion from the police investigation.”
But not Xie Qian’s conclusion?
Wen Ying had only met Zhang Zhijun, never Lu Meishu.
She did not know what kind of personality Lu Meishu had.
Learning that Zhang Zhijun and Lu Meishu had a son named Zhang Hua, only a few months older than Xie Qian, a chill ran from the soles of Wen Ying’s feet straight to the top of her head, making her shiver violently.
Zou Weijun’s depression had improved.
Xie Qian had survived that severe car accident.
Zou Weijun had smoothly divorced, signing a divorce agreement with additional terms, using shares in ‘Jinhu’ as a talisman. Wen Ying believed Xie Qian could definitely avoid the fatal calamity from his previous life.
The fates of Zou Weijun and her son Xie Qian had changed.
Now, would Lu Meishu and Zhang Hua take their place?
“That Zhang Hua…”
“I cannot trust him yet.”
Wen Ying did not play the saint and demand Xie Qian must help Zhang Hua. Anyone helping others should do so within their means. Xie Qian had to take care of himself first before having spare energy to help others.
While Wen Ying was still digesting the news of Zhang Zhijun’s wife’s suicide, Xie Qian said the plane had begun taxiing. Sure enough, she no longer had much mood to feel sad.
“Then that is it. Contact me when you land.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Wen Ying left the airport.
Because Chen Ru and Wen Dongrong had a lot of luggage, Wen Ying had specially called Tianjiao’s nanny van to see them off.
Walking to the car, the driver attentively opened the door for little President Wen.
Yet Wen Ying did not get in immediately. From the ground parking lot, she looked up at the sky. From this angle, she could see planes taking off.
“What are you looking at?”
The driver followed her gaze, stared for a long time without seeing anything notable, and cautiously asked.
“Nothing. Let’s go, back to the company.”
Wen Ying could not tell which plane Xie Qian was on. Her neck ached from looking, so she reluctantly got into the car.
Just after her car drove out of the parking lot, not far away, a quiet medical transfer vehicle finally moved.
The idiot doctor Xie Qian mentioned kept sighing. “It is not necessary. It is not as if you are not coming back. You made it feel like filming ‘Autumn in My Heart’.”
Xie Qian lay there, only able to warn the doctor with his eyes to shut up.
Also in the vehicle were Jiang Youjia and Zou Weijun.
Jiang Youjia had come to see them off. Zou Weijun would accompany Xie Qian abroad.
Jiang Youjia glared at the doctor. “Are you not moved at all?”
Even Jiang Youjia was deeply touched.
Young people in love were truly wonderful to watch. One restrained and deeply affectionate, the other generous and understanding.
Xie Qian only wanted to see Wen Ying once before going abroad. He was supposed to fly yesterday but delayed until today. Even if Xie Qian really did not give year-end bonuses, Jiang Youjia would still say Xie Qian was truly deeply in love.
Because before leaving the country, Xie Qian not only called Wen Ying and silently watched her leave.
He also sent messages to all their mutual friends, asking them to take good care of Wen Ying while he was abroad.
Once the messages went out, Xie Qian’s phone was bombarded with calls.
He had vanished from his friends’ lives for over twenty days.
Friends like Peng Guoqing and Wang Shuang, the academic underachievers, were easy to handle. Xie Qian could suppress them with a few sentences.
Li Mengjiao probably no longer needed Xie Qian’s tutoring. She was not afraid of him at all. Regardless of his reason for “standing her up”, she called and scolded him thoroughly.
Li Mengjiao accused him outright of being a scumbag who toyed with others’ feelings!
She even ranted about disbanding some CP group, hoping Wen Ying’s suitors would actively pursue her and quickly win her over while Xie Qian was abroad.
Her exact words were “When you return, Wen Ying will bring her new boyfriend to pick you up at the airport.” Jiang Youjia swore that at that moment, Xie Qian’s face turned green. Even so angered by Li Mengjiao, Xie Qian did not lose his temper. He still emphasised one point, hoping Li Mengjiao would take care of Wen Ying.
Xie Qian’s idea of care was for Li Mengjiao to cause less trouble and not add too much burden to Wen Ying. That would count as caring for her.
Over the phone, Li Mengjiao practically jumped and roared that she was a hundred times more competent than Xie Qian. She would never make Wen Ying angry, never let her feel sad, and certainly not allow her to suffer!
Thinking of all Xie Qian had arranged, Jiang Youjia wished she could press the doctor’s head down and force him to feel moved too.
Zou Weijun suddenly said softly, “Youjia, be kinder to Dr Wang. Xie Qian was in the hospital so long, all thanks to Dr Wang’s careful care. I believe Dr Wang is not cold. He probably just has not been in love yet, so he cannot empathise.”
Dr Wang could not help touching his face.
Were the words “older single” already etched on his face?
