“Really?” Tawana relaxed upon hearing it was his sister and quickly asked, “What’s your sister’s name? I might have heard of her.”
“Gu Qiuyi. Have you heard of her?”
“Gu Qiuyi…” Tawana thought for a moment and then nodded. “It sounds familiar. Isn’t she one of the most famous female singers in China? She had a concert tour in the U.S. not long ago.”
“Yes,” Ye Chen nodded. “That’s her.”
Tawana exclaimed, “So she’s your sister! I remember reading in the media that she had the highest ticket sales among Chinese singers in the U.S., and she’s about to retire from the music industry, right?”
“Yes,” Ye Chen said. “Her farewell concert is just missing the one in Yanjing to be complete.”
Tawana then asked, “I also heard you’re going to pick her up at the airport. Is she returning to Yanjing too?”
“Exactly,” Ye Chen said. “She’s coming back to rest for a couple of months.”
Tawana’s mind started racing, and after a moment, she asked Ye Chen, “Mr. Ye, would it be possible for me to invite Miss Gu to be a guest performer at my Yanjing concert?”
“A guest performer?” Ye Chen asked in surprise. “Why do you suddenly want to invite her?”
Tawana smiled and said, “Mr. Ye, usually, concerts have guest performers, and they’re often local well-known singers. The guest usually performs during the middle of the concert. But this time, my trip to China was decided quite suddenly after meeting you in Japan, so I didn’t have time to coordinate with local singers. Miss Gu is very popular among Chinese audiences, and she’s from Yanjing. If I could invite her to be a guest at my Yanjing concert, it would be a great honor for me.”
Tawana said this because she heard Gu Qiuyi was Ye Chen’s sister and wanted to do her a favor.
Normally, many singers would jump at the chance to perform at her concerts, given her massive popularity. Performing at her concert would be like free advertising for any singer.
However, she wasn’t sure if Gu Qiuyi, who was about to retire, would still be interested in performing on her stage. So she took the initiative to invite her.
Ye Chen had just heard Gu Qiuyi lamenting about not being able to get tickets to Tawana’s concert, and now Tawana wanted to invite her as a guest performer.
Ye Chen guessed that Gu Qiuyi, being such a fan of Tawana, wouldn’t refuse the invitation and would likely be thrilled.
After all, it wasn’t just about attending Tawana’s concert; it was also about performing on the same stage and having the chance to interact with her backstage.
So he said to Tawana, “I’ll pass on your invitation when I see her and see if she’s interested.”
Then he asked, “Your concert is starting in a couple of days. If we invite her now, will there be enough time for rehearsals?”
“It’s fine,” Tawana said with a smile. “Professional singers are very adaptable on stage. They don’t need much preparation. Even if her band members can’t make it, she’ll have plenty of performance routines ready. Those routines are tied to specific songs, with the accompaniment, backing vocals, stage lighting, and screen visuals all pre-arranged and well-practiced. The simplest way is for her to pick four or five songs, send the performance files to our production director, and then just perform on stage. If she knows any of my songs, we could even arrange a duet.”
Hearing this, Ye Chen smiled and said, “If it’s that simple, then I’m sure she’ll agree!”
