Gu Qiuyi sighed, “Oh Mum, the situation’s complicated, but I’ve laid it all out with Brother Ye Chen. He says he’s not sure he can beat those people yet, and he’s worried he might die someday. He wants to prepare enough rejuvenation pills for the three of us, so I can live well with you two. But I told him, I’ll stay with you and Dad, but if you both pass away, I won’t go on either.”
Lin Wanqiu sighed, she knew her daughter best and could tell she wasn’t joking.
If Ye Chen were killed by his enemies, the only thing keeping her going would be her parents.
And if they were gone too, she likely wouldn’t hold on alone.
So she asked, “What did Chen’er say to that?”
Gu Qiuyi replied, “Brother Ye Chen tried to talk me out of it, but I wouldn’t budge. I told him if he and my parents were gone, I wouldn’t cling to life alone, unless he gave me a son.”
“Good girl!” Lin Wanqiu gave a thumbs-up, “That’s the way, hit him straight! We’ve been too considerate before, and he’s so wishy-washy about this. If we keep giving him space and time, he’ll just drag it out forever without making a real decision!”
She pressed eagerly, “By the way, after you said that, what did Chen’er say?”
Gu Qiuyi fibbed, “He said he’d think it over carefully. So I reckon this time I’ve made my feelings clear to him, and he won’t keep stalling endlessly, he’ll give me an answer.”
With that, she hugged her mum’s arm and cooed, “Mum, I’ve already said my piece, so please don’t bring it up with Brother Ye Chen at dinner, just give him a bit more time, okay?”
Lin Wanqiu sighed lightly, patting Gu Qiuyi’s hand, and said sincerely, “Nannan, all I want now is for you to get pregnant soon. It’s not just about carrying on Chen’er’s and the Ye family’s line, I want you to have a companion. Chen’er himself isn’t sure he can beat that Wu Feiyan, if something happens to him and your dad and I can’t stay with you forever, your child could still be there for you, to look after you in old age.”
Then she asked, “Why not push a bit harder, cook the rice with Chen’er first? If that doesn’t work, we’ll step back and be blunt, tell him marriage doesn’t matter, it’s just a formality, but a child’s bloodline is real.”
Gu Qiuyi showed no trace of shyness, her expression firm as she said, “Mum, since we’ve laid it all out, I’ve got nothing to hide from you. I’d love to have Brother Ye Chen’s child soon, but I don’t want him agreeing under pressure…”
Her cheeks flushed a little as she lowered her voice shyly, “I want, I want Brother Ye Chen to love me in his heart when he agrees. I hope he gives me a child because he loves me, not just because he’s pressured or to pass on the family line.”
Lin Wanqiu sighed with concern, “Nannan, Chen’er’s so much like his dad, looks and personality both. I’m really worried he’ll handle relationships like his dad did too. To be blunt, I’m afraid he’ll keep turning you down.”
Gu Qiuyi gave a wry smile, “If Brother Ye Chen ultimately rejects me, I’ve got no other way. I’ll just pray for him in my heart, hoping he can turn danger into safety and live a happy life.”
Hearing this, Lin Wanqiu’s eyes reddened, fearing her daughter might end up alone forever.
She held Gu Qiuyi’s hand, choking up as she lamented, “If only your Aunt An were still here, she adored you so much, she’d have stood up for you…”
