The leader barked, “From now on, anyone who makes an unnecessary move gets a bullet through their head!”
Tawana’s parents didn’t dare act rashly, only able to huddle together, sobbing.
Tawana was now utterly hopeless. She realised neither she nor her parents had any chance of leaving alive. Last time in Tokyo, Ye Chen had saved her. This time in the Maldives, no such miracle would happen.
Growing impatient, the leader grabbed Tawana’s collar and sneered, “Come, let me taste what an international superstar feels like!”
With that, he moved to tear her top open.
At that moment, his earpiece crackled with static and noise, as if someone had pressed the talk button but said nothing before releasing it.
Frowning, he assumed a team member was trying to contact him but was interrupted by interference.
Teams one, two, and three were on perimeter duty, and the only ones further out were those sent to fix the signal. He quickly checked his phone.
He’d been waiting for the signal strength indicator to appear in the top-right corner, but after a long wait, there was still no change.
Irritated, he pressed the comms button and snapped, “Old Xu, why isn’t the signal back yet?! I’m ready to broadcast a show for the world’s netizens!”
The earpiece remained silent.
His brows furrowed instantly, a sense of unease creeping in.
The Old Xu he was trying to reach was the captain whose arms Ye Chen had severed and throat he’d slit.
He’d worked with Old Xu for years. The man was always steady and reliable, never going silent during a mission.
Not once had he ever been slow to respond.
Whenever he called Old Xu over the comms, the reply was always an immediate “Received.”
The lack of an instant response from Old Xu put him on high alert.
He stood up, heading outside while pressing the comms, “Team One, go check on Old Xu. Find out what’s going on and why he’s not responding!”
He expected Team One’s reply through the comms, but the line remained deathly silent.
His tension spiked, and he stopped moving forward.
Suppressing his growing panic, he pressed the talk button again, “Team Two, Team Three, respond if you hear me!”
Teams Two and Three, also assigned to perimeter duty, consisted of thirty men in total, including Team One.
But he never imagined that all thirty would fail to respond!
At that moment, only the six men from Team Four remained by his side.
Captain Old Xu and the three soldiers sent with him were completely out of contact.
A chill ran through him. He whispered to one of the men in black beside him, “Go check what’s happening outside.”
The chosen man, though nervous, didn’t dare disobey. Mustering his courage, he cautiously headed out of the bar.
Just as he reached the doorway, he froze, standing motionless.
Seeing him stop, the leader shouted at his back, “What are you doing?! Go find out what’s going on!”
No sooner had he spoken than the man’s head suddenly fell from his shoulders, rolling to a stop at the leader’s feet!
