“What… what kind of power is this?” one guard cried out in terror.
The county lord’s eyes widened too, his face showing utter disbelief.
He had not expected Chen Ping to be so formidable. Just a mere pressure from him had rendered his carefully trained guards incapable of fighting.
Chen Ping advanced towards the county lord step by step. With each footfall, the ground seemed to tremble.
The county lord gazed at Chen Ping in horror, his body retreating involuntarily.
“You… you stay away! I… I have the backing of the temple! If you dare touch me, the temple will not let you go!” the county lord stammered.
Chen Ping sneered. “The temple? I am precisely here to settle scores with the temple! You collude with the Six Temples, committing countless evils. Today is your day of reckoning!”
“You… who exactly are you?” the county lord asked in fright.
In the entire Sevenfold Heaven, there had never been anyone who dared to openly declare opposition to the temple.
The county lord could not comprehend how Chen Ping had the audacity to speak so boldly.
“Who I am is unimportant,” Chen Ping said coldly. “What matters is whether you are willing to tell us the location of the Six Temples.”
The county lord hesitated, then said, “I… I do not know the location of the Six Temples. I merely follow their directives.”
“You do not know?” A glint of killing intent flashed in Chen Ping’s eyes. “It seems you prefer the hard way.”
With that, he advanced towards the county lord.
Seeing this, the county lord hurriedly said, “Wait! I will tell you! I will tell you!”
He knew that if he held out any longer, his life would truly be in peril.
Chen Ping halted, eyeing him coldly.
The county lord took a deep breath, then said, “The location of the Six Temples is… in the depths of the wasteland, on a mountain peak. I am not entirely sure of the precise spot, only the general direction.”
“The general direction?” Chen Ping’s eyes showed a trace of displeasure. “You had best think carefully before answering, or bear the consequences.”
The county lord quickly replied, “I truly do not know the exact location. I only know the Six Temples lie in the northwest of the wasteland. There is a massive mountain peak there, and the Six Temples are deep within it.”
Chen Ping pondered briefly, then said, “Very well, I shall trust you this once.”
With that, he turned and headed towards the exit of the hall.
Lin Yuner was taken aback. She could not understand why Chen Ping did not kill the county lord.
But since Chen Ping refrained from striking, she had no choice but to follow. With her strength, she could not kill the county lord anyway.
Just as they were about to leave the hall, the county lord suddenly shot a beam of light towards them.
The light streaked like a venomous snake, hurtling straight at Chen Ping’s back.
“Watch out!” Lin Yuner shouted in warning.
Chen Ping, however, paid it no mind. With a casual wave of his hand, he dispelled the county lord’s attack.
“You dare to launch a sneak attack?” Chen Ping said coldly.
With that, he turned back towards the county lord.
The county lord’s face drained of colour. He knew he had thoroughly enraged Chen Ping.
“Mercy! Please spare me!” the county lord pleaded, dropping to his knees.
But Chen Ping remained unmoved. He approached the county lord and said, “A traitor like you, colluding with the temple and harming your own people, does not deserve to live in this world.”
With that, he struck a palm towards the county lord’s skull.
The county lord did not even have time to scream before collapsing to the ground, his life extinguished.
Seeing the county lord dead, Lin Yuner furrowed her brow.
Her father’s soul had not been inquired about with the county lord. Could it still be recovered?
“It seems only the Six Temples will know if your father’s soul can be retrieved. This county lord was merely a puppet.”
Noticing Lin Yuner’s expression, Chen Ping explained.
Lin Yuner nodded, then said, “Whether you go to the Six Temples or not, I will go with you…”
“We are not heading to the Six Temples yet. We shall stay in East Township County for two days to attend to some personal needs.”
