Hearing this, Xu Fei’s heart jolted with a bad feeling, he suddenly thought of something and raced off in his car to the nearby Jinguang Temple.
When he got there and asked the old abbot, he learned Lanhua had left for his place a few days ago.
“A few days ago? But that’s a ridiculous time gap, where’s Lanhua been these past few days?”
“Could it be she left Jinguang Temple and actually found my house? And ran into Lin Qingxue?”
With that thought, Xu Fei floored it, speeding back to his villa.
Arriving home, he saw a frail young girl sitting in the living room, looking underage, draped in a housecoat and sipping ginger soup.
“She’s…”
Seeing Xu Fei’s question, Lin Qingxue marched up, hands on hips.
“Hmph! Got the nerve to play dumb with me? You don’t know this little girl? Then why’s your shirt on her!”
Spotting the white shirt in Lin Qingxue’s hand, Xu Fei clicked it instantly.
That shirt was custom-made for him by Lin Qingxue, who’d taken charge of all his wardrobe.
Though Xu Fei had grumbled about not wanting to flaunt, Lin Qingxue wouldn’t hear it.
“No way! You’re the hidden big shot of our family now, even if you keep it low-key, your clothes can’t look cheap!”
Back when he rescued Lanhua in the Yinhe District, she’d been nearly stripped bare, so Xu Fei had draped his white shirt over her.
After dropping her at Jinguang Temple, he’d forgotten to take it back.
He laid it all out for Lin Qingxue, who still seemed half-convinced, but Xu Fei had bigger fish to fry.
“Why’s this shirt with you? Shouldn’t it be on Lanhua?”
Hearing Xu Fei say Lanhua’s name, the girl relaxed, spilling the whole story.
“Two days ago, I met Lanhua, fresh off the boat, at Lang-ge’s foot spa, we hit it off quick since we’re about the same age.”
“Later, Lang-ge tried something shady with her, but Lanhua’s tough, she sent him packing in two moves, so he got me to slip her something.”
“Lang-ge didn’t know I’d bonded with Lanhua, I told her everything, and that night she snuck me out.”
“But Lang-ge’s goons were on our tail, Lanhua handed me her little bundle and told me to find Mr. Lin.”
Lin Qingxue cut in, “I know the rest, this lass couldn’t track you down, got caught in the rain, freezing by the road, slipped on your shirt, and I spotted her passing by, brought her back!”
After the rundown, Xu Fei finally got the full picture.
“Damn! If there were goons chasing her last night, Lanhua’s in deep trouble now!”
Realising this, Xu Fei pressed the girl for the foot spa’s address, then bolted out, slamming the accelerator and tearing off.
Meanwhile, at a foot spa in the south end of town, it being daytime, the place wasn’t open yet.
Even so, it was buzzing inside.
“Look, little Lanhua, Lang-ge’s been feeding you, housing you for days, how about a small thank-you for me, eh? What’s the harm?”
Lang-ge, a bald brute with a face full of jowls, grinned at a locked door, cooing like he was sweet-talking a lover.
No reply came, so he nodded at his crew, a gang of burly thugs charging the door, but the flimsy thing wouldn’t budge!
