In the surveillance footage, Yao Yuanzhou hauled the massive suitcase alone for quite a distance, only stopping after glancing back to ensure he’d left the Yao family’s camera range.
Then he opened the suitcase, and inside was none other than the missing Yao Yunxi!
But from the footage, Xu Fei could see Yao Yunxi’s eyes were vacant, dull, and lifeless, as if she were under some kind of control.
Moments later, a black van screeched up, whisking both Yao Yunxi and Yao Yuanzhou away into the distance.
After watching the scene unfold, Xu Fei’s mind clicked into gear.
“It looks like Yao Yuanzhou and Yao Yunxi didn’t just vanish innocently. Uncle He, haven’t you pinned down that kid’s whereabouts yet?”
Uncle He’s heart sank at Xu Fei’s question, and he fumbled for his phone.
Earlier, when he’d stepped out, it was to send Yao family members to track Yao Yuanzhou down.
But his phone screen was still dark, a clear sign that, so far, his people had come up empty-handed.
Catching Uncle He’s awkward grin, Xu Fei knew the score.
He pulled out his own phone and dialled Hell’s Ear, the one guy he could count on in a pinch.
“Tracking someone, Major General? Don’t worry, since you’ve got the name and photo this time, I’ll lock his position in minutes!”
The call stayed live, and Hell’s Ear wasn’t bluffing.
Less than a minute later, his voice crackled through again.
“Got him, Major General! Yao Yuanzhou’s been active in the last ten minutes in Nanyang Alley, Beiwang District, in the capital. I’ve sent the exact coordinates to your phone!”
Xu Fei switched screens and sure enough, there was Hell’s Ear’s detailed pin.
“Good work, kid. I’ll reward you proper once this is over!”
Hanging up, Xu Fei turned to Uncle He, “We’ve got him. Get a car ready, Uncle He!”
This time, Xu Fei had come to the capital from Jiangbei, a place where he barely knew the lay of the land or had many contacts, not even his trusty car, which made things a bit tricky.
But Uncle He, having served all sorts of masters in a big family like the Yao’s, was a pro at reading the room.
He caught Xu Fei’s subconscious reach for car keys and clicked instantly, “No problem, Doctor Xu, give me a sec to sort it!”
Uncle He dashed off again, but this time he was back fast.
By the time Xu Fei stepped out of the inn, brushing past the manager’s ingratiating smile to the front gate, a black Hummer was waiting.
“Doctor Xu, I just got the family head’s approval, this car’s yours to use from now on!”
Normally, Xu Fei would’ve politely declined, after all, no reward without merit, as the saying goes.
Plus, since training under his master Mo Wentian, he’d treated countless nobles and bigwigs, racking up favours owed to him.
He knew time was the currency of favours, and he didn’t want to end up in anyone’s debt.
But with the situation urgent, he’d have to borrow it for now.
Xu Fei nodded, motioning Uncle He to switch seats, then hopped in, floored the gas, and the car roared off.
