“With your skills, you should be able to succeed, right?”
Muttering this sentence to himself, a gust of wind blew past.
The figure on the rooftop vanished, and the small courtyard at No. 33 Bawangfen Hutong returned to silence once more.
At this moment, Xu Fei had already left the alley with Deacon Zhikong and was seated in a black Hummer.
“Lord Junshao, rest assured, although the security for outsiders at the Hall Master’s birthday banquet today is extremely strict, as long as I vouch for you, there’ll be absolutely no problem!”
Earlier on the road, Deacon Zhikong had shared his plan with Xu Fei.
Within the Red Buddha Society, the president, the Hall Master, and the elders formed the core of importance.
Deacons like Zhikong, on the other hand, were practically expendable.
These individuals were either wealthy and had made significant contributions to the Red Buddha Society, or they possessed certain special abilities that had aided the society in various ways, making it easy for them to be selected as deacons.
Another criterion for the countless deacons in the Red Buddha Society was recommendation: as long as a deacon’s endorsement passed the review of the overseeing elder, becoming a deacon was pretty much a done deal, eight or nine times out of ten.
For most people, the process might still involve tedious procedures, but for Deacon Zhikong, it was entirely unnecessary.
He was on very good terms with Elder Sushui, his superior, and as long as he spoke up, getting Xu Fei inside would be no trouble at all!
Xu Fei clearly agreed with this proposal, since, for him, the method didn’t matter as long as he could infiltrate the group at this point.
Soon, Xu Fei drove the car, following Deacon Zhikong’s directions, to the vicinity of the Red Buddha Society’s headquarters.
To avoid drawing attention, Deacon Zhikong deliberately had Xu Fei park the car early, allowing them to bypass many of the hidden sentries scattered around.
After getting out of the car, they walked for about five minutes before Deacon Zhikong pointed to an ancient-looking temple nearby and said,
“This is the headquarters of the Red Buddha Society, but our destination today isn’t here, it’s the Hall Master’s residence in the opposite direction.”
When Xu Fei saw the Red Buddha Society’s headquarters, he felt a slight thrill in his heart.
After all, his reason for coming to the capital was precisely to take down this big player.
However, Xu Fei knew full well that his strength alone wasn’t enough at this moment, and he’d have to find another way.
Next, Deacon Zhikong pointed to an alley in the opposite direction, and Xu Fei followed him, walking inward for about ten minutes.
Though both locations were in alleys, the courtyard Xu Fei saw next was on an entirely different level from the one he’d seen before.
The courtyard that appeared before Xu Fei not only stood two storeys taller on the outside, but from a distance, it gleamed with golden splendour and exuded an imposing grandeur.
If an outsider came here and someone told them this was once part of an imperial palace, they’d surely believe it.
“Come on, Lord Junshao, on this important day, Elder Sushui must already be here, I’ll take you to meet him right away!”
Deacon Zhikong knocked on the door, and after the person inside recognised him, the door was opened immediately, allowing the two of them to walk in with ease.
Once inside, Xu Fei realised the place was absolutely packed. Deacon Zhikong explained,
“Because today is the Hall Master’s birthday banquet, countless deacons below are eager to seize this chance to curry favour with the Hall Master, hoping one day to be recognised and exceptionally promoted to elder.”
That’s why the place was so crowded, with everyone holding expensive gifts in their hands.
Under Deacon Zhikong’s lead, Xu Fei bypassed the overflowing front courtyard and arrived at a relatively quiet courtyard at the back.
Following the staircase beside it, they reached a private room on the third floor. Deacon Zhikong knocked on the door, and a voice, aged yet full of vigour, came from within.
