“Erm… sorry about this, could you go back and prepare another one, please?”
Xu Fei’s next words, however, gave her a nudge. Xiao Ai didn’t say much more and quickly left, heading straight to Dong Tianyi’s office.
“I was a bit groggy from sleep just now. When I opened my eyes and saw someone standing by Auntie’s bed with a syringe, I thought it was that Dong Tianyi sneaking in. Really sorry about that!”
Xu Fei scratched his head, looking sheepish, but Duanmu Qing’s following words snapped him right out of it.
“No worries, that injection was just a free nutrient solution from the hospital. It’s just a hassle for that little nurse to make another trip!”
Duanmu Qing said this with a smile, but then she noticed Xu Fei’s expression turn serious.
“Free? No way! What hospital isn’t a bloodsucking pit that doesn’t spit out the bones? You’d be lucky if they don’t overcharge you, let alone give you free medicine! No doubt about it, this has to be Dong Tianyi’s doing!”
Xu Fei cottoned on in an instant, then slipped out quietly to lurk outside Dong Tianyi’s office.
At that moment, inside the office, Dong Tianyi was busy calming Xiao Ai down while preparing another syringe, this time filled with a special painkiller.
Luckily, it was evening now, and the hospital corridors were nearly empty, so no one spotted Xu Fei.
He pulled out his phone, discreetly snapping photos and recording a video of Dong Tianyi comforting Xiao Ai, before slipping back to the ward.
“That bastard! What a shameless thug! I didn’t think Dong Tianyi could be even more of a beast than I’d imagined!”
Duanmu Qing was furious for two reasons: first, that Dong Tianyi would stoop so low as to use such despicable tactics on her mother just to win a bet; second, that poor nurse Xiao Ai, so young, had fallen into that beast’s clutches.
“But what do we do now? That nurse is innocent, after all.”
“That’s where you and I need to work together!”
Xu Fei grinned at Duanmu Qing, then leaned in close to her ear, whispering his plan to her.
Nurse Xiao Ai, her face still flushed, arrived once more at the door of ward 0527. Thinking back to the flirty moves Dong Tianyi had made on her in the office, her heart raced a little.
But remembering the important task he’d entrusted her with, she steadied herself and pushed the door open.
As soon as she stepped in, she saw Duanmu Qing eyeing her with a suspicious look.
“Put that syringe down!”
Duanmu Qing’s tone carried a mix of grit and authority, startling the rookie nurse right off the bat.
“I’m asking you now: are you and your Director Dong up to something shady?”
“No… I’m not, I swear!”
Xiao Ai was so scared she crouched down on the floor. Though she denied it, her face betrayed her completely.
“You say no? Then what’s this!”
Duanmu Qing whipped out Xu Fei’s phone, showing the footage of Xiao Ai in the office with Dong Tianyi’s hands all over her. The poor girl was so mortified she nearly buried her head in her clothes.
“Let me tell you straight: I’m his fiancée! He’s been chasing me for ages! I never imagined he’d have a little sidepiece like you here at the hospital!”
Her words left Xiao Ai dumbfounded. Then Duanmu Qing immediately pulled up her chat history with Dong Tianyi.
Truth be told, she’d only known Dong Tianyi for a few days herself, so of course there wasn’t really any chat history to speak of.
