Talented Medical Son-in-law Chapter 1676

“What’s that? Cat got your tongue? Well, let me find someone to speak for you then!”

After Dean Fang said this, the ward door swung open, and in walked several staff members.

They were all women, mostly young and attractive, and they were glaring at Dong Tianyi with undisguised resentment.

“Dean, it was Director Dong who told me to secretly inject the patient with that specialty painkiller, hoping it’d help him win his bet. Thankfully, Dr. Xu Fei caught it and stopped me! I owe you an apology!”

The first to speak was Xiao Ai, and another woman beside her chimed in.

“Dean, Director Dong also told me personally that if I helped him get rid of this reimbursement slip, he’d see to it I got a promotion and a raise. It was only because of Xiao Ai and the others’ warnings today that I realised just how vile and despicable he really is!”

This was the female clerk in charge of the reimbursement slip.

Hearing their words, Dean Fang let out a cold chuckle.

“Sounds impressive, doesn’t it, Director Dong? Seems like in my absence, you’ve been busy promising promotions and raises. Quite the talent in our medical field, aren’t you?”

The more Dean Fang laced his words with sarcasm, the more they cut into Dong Tianyi like a blunt knife, twisting his heart with unbearable agony.

By now, he’d braced himself for the worst. If his misuse of the painkiller was exposed, fine—he’d just resign and leave.

But Dong Tianyi was confident. With his experience and credentials, he could easily land another director’s post in a different city.

“I… I’m sorry, Dean Fang. I was momentarily blinded by greed, so I manipulated my colleagues into doing these shameful things.”

“I… I’ve failed the medical profession and let everyone down. As of today, I’m resigning voluntarily and will no longer be this hospital’s Director of Medicine!”

His speech was delivered with such conviction, so moving, that anyone unaware of the full story might’ve been brought to tears. Some might even have felt a surge of sympathy and urged him to stay—which was exactly what Dong Tianyi was banking on.

He didn’t believe his sins warranted ruin. Besides, maybe only Xiao Ai and a few others knew the details.

Having worked at the hospital for years, he’d built decent relationships with plenty of people. If just one person spoke up for him, he might not have to leave today.

But reality is always harsher than hope. Despite the room being packed with hospital staff, and more crowding the corridor outside, not a single soul stepped forward to defend him.

Though Dong Tianyi kept a neutral face, inside he was already cursing and railing against everyone around him and the hospital itself.

With no other choice, he handed over his badge, took off his white coat, and accepted that once he left, the tea would go cold—he could no longer stay.

But just as he reached the door, Dean Fang called out to him.

“Hold on a moment, Director Dong. I’m not finished yet.”

The dean’s sudden words felt to Dong Tianyi like a long-awaited break in the clouds, a glimmer of hope piercing through.

Even if no one else would speak for him, it didn’t matter now. As long as the dean opened his mouth, one word from him, and Dong Tianyi would surely be allowed to stay!
