Duanmu Qing’s main concern was ensuring her mother’s illness was treated, not actually holding Dong Tianyi accountable.
“Young man, if you’re free after sorting things out here, come find me. Fancy joining this old chap for a cuppa?”
Dean Fang said this, pulling a business card from his pocket and handing it to Xu Fei before leaving the ward with the other doctors.
“I say, aren’t you lot a bit cold? Not one of you tried to keep Director Dong, after all… ouch!”
At that moment, Duanmu Lei, who’d been silent until now, suddenly stood up, grumbling in protest. But before he could finish, Duanmu Qing slapped him hard across the face.
“You took the money I gave you last night and went gallivanting with that brute Dong Tianyi, don’t think I don’t know!”
“Even looking at you makes me sick, Duanmu Lei! Get out, I’m done with you as a brother!”
Stung by the slap and her words, Duanmu Lei didn’t argue further. He shot Xu Fei a venomous glare before storming out, slamming the door behind him.
“Alright, don’t get upset. The important thing is Auntie Li’s illness is cured, so you can head back with peace of mind!”
Xu Fei quickly stepped in to smooth things over, but Duanmu Qing picked up on something in his words.
“What’s that, Dr. Mu? Does this mean Dr. Ye’s staying in the capital and not coming back with us?”
Though Duanmu Qing spoke playfully, her heart was heavy with worry.
She feared that Xu Fei’s display of skill in front of Dean Fang might lead to him being recruited to stay, meaning she’d no longer see him.
“Er… no, no, you’ve got it wrong. I just think a different life suits me better. I’ll head back later, that’s all, gotta show respect to the elders, right?”
“Besides, though Auntie’s condition is sorted, I’d like to keep an eye on her progress. Once things are settled here, I’ll head straight back.”
Xu Fei hurriedly waved his hands to explain, worried Duanmu Qing might misunderstand. He even pulled out Dean Fang’s business card as a shield.
“Alright then, we’ll head back first!”
Satisfied enough with his answer, Duanmu Qing packed up her things and left the First Hospital with her mother.
Once Duanmu Qing was gone, Xu Fei breathed a sigh of relief. He pulled out his phone and opened a contact.
“You still there? Send me the address, quick!”
It didn’t take long for a reply to ping back.
“Hm? You want my home address? I live at South Yard, North Gate Street, Beiqing Road…”
Reading the response, Xu Fei was speechless. He sent back a sweating emoji along with a message.
“No, come on, what are you thinking? I’m obviously asking for the address of that cupping place you went to!”
Realising she’d successfully teased Xu Fei, the female technician smirked and sent over the correct address.
