“Alright, I’ll head back right now. You organise people to go into the mountains immediately. We must find that Old Zhang before dawn, understood?”
“Understood, Major!”
After hanging up, Xu Fei quickly said goodbye to Aunt Li and the others, driving back to the centre of Jing City.
Halfway there, the car inexplicably stopped.
Xu Fei glanced down and realised it had run out of fuel.
“What a bloody inconvenience!”
With no other option, Xu Fei slapped the steering wheel, left the car by the roadside, and flagged down a taxi.
In the taxi, Xu Fei noticed it was heading onto an overpass, gradually moving away from the city centre towards the outskirts.
“Driver, why’s it getting more remote?”
The driver chuckled softly.
“Mate, didn’t you pick the address? That area’s all new construction sites, of course it’s getting more remote!”
As he spoke, the taxi sped up and soon stopped beside an unfinished construction site.
At the site’s entrance stood a man in a suit and a hard hat. Seeing Xu Fei step out of the taxi, he hurried over.
“Are you the Major? Our boss sent me to meet you. Please, come in!”
Following the man, Xu Fei entered the site and soon saw a deep pit sealed off with layers of caution tape.
Wang Qiang, also wearing a hard hat, sat in a nearby shelter, his face grim and far from cheerful.
Even so, when he saw Xu Fei, he greeted him with a smile.
“Major, you’re finally here! I’ll cut to the chase. Recently, my site’s hit a major problem. We’ve hired plenty of people, but no one could solve it. I had no choice but to turn to you!”
Hearing this, Xu Fei sensed the matter was quite serious.
“Mr. Wang, you’re too kind. Since you’ve asked, if I can help, I’ll do my utmost!”
After speaking, Wang Qiang patted Xu Fei’s shoulder and led him to the pit surrounded by caution tape.
In the pit, a coffin came into view. It had been opened, with burial items scattered around. Most striking was a golden Buddha statue gleaming brightly.
“I can’t tell much from up here. Can I go down and take a look?”
At Xu Fei’s words, the surrounding workers stepped back. Wang Qiang quickly explained.
“Here’s the thing: that coffin was found five days ago. Everyone who’s gone down into the pit has had accidents in the last two days… they died!”
Despite hearing such an eerie tale, Xu Fei insisted on going down. Using the true energy in his body, he had just sensed something extraordinary.
From this distance, it was hard to see clearly or be certain.
Ever since his encounters with the Red Buddha Society in Jing City, he felt anything related to Buddhas was unusual and shouldn’t be judged lightly.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Wang, let me go down! If anything happens, you’re not responsible!”
Wang Qiang nodded, reluctantly agreeing to Xu Fei’s request.
Since the coffin was unearthed at Wang Qiang’s site, several workers had inexplicably died, including the various experts he’d hired, all of whom met with accidents after leaving.
