“Wait!”
Xu Fei was just about to walk away when he heard Su Yu’s voice. He stopped, thinking to himself, “Is this woman planning to scam me or something?”
To his surprise, Su Yu didn’t intend to extort him. Instead, she said, “I overheard you saying you’re going to retrieve something from Jiang Tianlei. Do you two have some sort of grudge?”
Xu Fei wasn’t sure what she was getting at, but he figured there was no harm in explaining, so he replied, “It’s nothing major. That bloke bought a cursed golden Buddha to present as a gift for the Jiang family matriarch’s birthday. The Buddha’s cursed, so I need to take it back. Is what I’m saying really that funny?”
As Xu Fei spoke, he noticed Su Yu struggling to hold back her laughter, until she finally burst out laughing, completely shedding her refined demeanour.
“It’s not funny, but I’m thrilled! Jiang Tianlei and I are sworn enemies!”
“Tonight is the Jiang family matriarch’s birthday banquet. Someone like you, without an invitation, definitely won’t get in. Come with me. When we’re there, just say you’re the chief appraiser of our Su family. If you can publicly humiliate that guy, it’ll be even better!”
At this point, Xu Fei understood. By chance, he’d run into Su Yu, who had a personal vendetta against Jiang Tianlei.
She was arbitrarily assigning him the role of chief appraiser, hoping to use him to thoroughly embarrass Jiang Tianlei and exact her revenge.
Xu Fei mulled it over. Though he suspected he was being used as a pawn, it was a mutually beneficial arrangement.
So, Xu Fei agreed.
Seeing him nod, Su Yu extended her hand with a charming smile, “I’m Su Yu. I’ll let our earlier incident slide. I hope you put on a good show tonight!”
“Let’s go, it’s about time, we should head out!”
After a roughly half-hour drive, Su Yu brought Xu Fei to a villa district.
The parking area outside was filled with luxury cars as far as the eye could see. Su Yu’s Porsche seemed almost unremarkable here.
“The Jiang family’s got some serious money! Let’s head inside!” Su Yu couldn’t help but remark.
She then linked arms with Xu Fei, and the two made their way to the central banquet hall.
The hall was resplendent, already bustling with guests, creating a lively atmosphere.
As Su Yu and Xu Fei entered, an elderly gentleman in formal attire adjusted his glasses and approached.
“Miss Su, for the Jiang matriarch’s seventieth birthday, may I ask what gift you’ve brought?”
Seeing the gentleman’s question, Su Yu promptly presented a gift box.
The gentleman opened it to reveal a vase, elegantly simple in design, engraved with pine and crane motifs, symbolising longevity and good fortune.
“Splendid! A Pine and Crane Longevity Vase! Miss Su, you’ve truly put thought into this!” the gentleman praised, clearly delighted.
But at that moment, a grating voice interrupted, “Hmph, just a shabby vase! And who knows if it’s even real, yet you’re this excited!”
Su Yu and Xu Fei turned to see none other than Jiang Tianlei.
