Hearing Xu Fei’s questioning, Su Yu and her sister Su Ya blushed, stammering and unable to speak for a while.
“Alright, big brother, my sister’s too shy, so I’ll explain,” Su Ya finally said, stepping in to clarify.
Perhaps because they hadn’t been home in a long time, Su Ya and Su Yu found themselves unable to sleep, no matter how they tried, when sharing a bed.
After tossing and turning with no hint of sleepiness, the two, bored, decided to seek out Xu Fei for a solution.
Su Yu nodded in agreement, having witnessed Xu Fei’s remarkable abilities firsthand and believing he might have a way.
But when the sisters arrived at the guest room, they found Xu Fei wasn’t there.
They searched outside and eventually overheard a conversation coming from their father’s study.
Though the door muffled the words, preventing Su Yu and Su Ya from hearing the details, they at least confirmed Xu Fei hadn’t left, he was just talking with their father.
So, the sisters decided to return to the guest room and wait, reasoning that Xu Fei would surely come back eventually.
What they didn’t expect was that the secret discussion in the study would last so long.
By the time Xu Fei left the study and returned to the guest room, both sisters had fallen asleep.
Hence, the earlier misunderstanding occurred.
Though the explanation sounded reasonable, Xu Fei still found it odd.
The Su family garden was the sisters’ childhood home, so even if they felt out of place, it seemed unlikely they’d find their own home unfamiliar.
With suspicion in mind, Xu Fei quietly activated his X-ray vision.
What he saw startled him, no wonder the sisters couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning all night.
A strand of murky qi had attached itself to both of them, looking as grotesque as a repulsive insect!
“Strange, Su Ya might have picked up the murky qi from touching the jade earrings, but where did Su Yu’s come from? And how did I not notice it after all this time?”
After some thought, Xu Fei arrived at a conclusion.
In the past, Su Hong had spent so long tomb raiding that by the time he realised he’d been tainted by something impure, it was too late.
Unknowingly, he had even passed it on to his daughters.
Fortunately, through his X-ray vision, Xu Fei observed that this murky qi was indeed like a small insect in form.
It had likely been living off Su Yu’s body for years, sustained by her vital energy.
Xu Fei’s discovery was timely, as allowing this murky qi to grow further could endanger Su Yu’s life!
“Hm? When did Su Yu start wearing a jade pendant, and this one’s design is rather ugly… is that a Taotie?”
With his X-ray vision active, Xu Fei easily saw through her clothes to the jade pendant Su Yu wore close to her body.
Unlike typical Guanyin or Buddha pendants, this one was carved with a lifelike beast.
Judging by its ferocious expression and distinctive gaping mouth, it was undoubtedly a Taotie.
“It seems… the murky qi in Su Yu’s body hasn’t been lying dormant undisturbed. Su Hong must have noticed it, otherwise he wouldn’t have used such a method to protect his daughter’s life.”
Just as he was thinking this, Xu Fei suddenly heard a knock at the door.
The sound sent the sisters into a panic, and without a word, they dove under the covers to hide.
Xu Fei chuckled lightly, understanding their fear of being discovered.
