“What are you staring at? Hurry up and move, or we’ll be in trouble when their reinforcements arrive!”
Ma Sanlaizi snapped out of it, nodding hurriedly and following Xu Fei like a walking corpse.
His mind, however, kept replaying the scene of Xu Fei’s clash with the swordsman.
“To think… he actually defeated a swordsman with just a branch? This man is worth relying on!”
Unknowingly, Xu Fei’s two casual displays of skill had left an indelible impression on Ma Sanlaizi, quietly solidifying a certain resolve in his heart.
Xu Fei had no idea what was going through Ma Sanlaizi’s mind. All he knew was that Hell Ear had gone to great lengths to buy him time.
Fortunately, just as Xu Fei led Ma Sanlaizi through the courtyard and reached the outer yard, they ran into Hell Ear.
Or rather, a frantically sprinting Hell Ear.
“Who’s that guy?”
Ma Sanlaizi, noticing the wildly running Hell Ear and finding his appearance somewhat comical, couldn’t help but ask.
“No one special. He’s my subordinate, worked hard to buy us time,” Xu Fei replied.
“Colonel, sir! Have you already secured the target?”
Hell Ear, panting heavily, approached. The sweat on his forehead made it clear he’d been through quite a workout.
“Of course. Got both the item and the person,” Xu Fei said.
Hell Ear’s face lit up with wild joy.
“Brilliant! Now I don’t have to keep circling around with those punks. Want me to go take them all out?”
Xu Fei found Hell Ear’s reaction a bit odd. Hell Ear wasn’t usually one for revenge.
On the contrary, he was a trouble-averse guy who had no real enemies, mostly because he was too lazy.
He’d rather hide in his lab tinkering with new inventions or honing his hacking skills than waste time settling scores.
But Xu Fei figured Hell Ear had his reasons, so he replied, “Do what you think is best. I’m taking him and heading to a safe spot.”
“But don’t go overboard. Make sure you meet up with me soon!”
Hearing Xu Fei’s approval, Hell Ear beamed, saluting quickly. “Understood, Colonel, sir! Don’t worry, once I’ve let off some steam, I’ll come find you!”
With that, Hell Ear turned and dashed back.
It was just as well that Hell Ear went back, because Xu Fei’s rescue operation had already caused a massive stir.
Not just the inner courtyard, but the outer courtyard was abuzz with news of a fierce intruder who could single-handedly toy with the entire guard team.
For the outer courtyard’s thugs, this was a golden opportunity for promotion.
Even if they knew their skills might not measure up, they were brimming with confidence.
After all, they had numbers on their side. Worst case, they’d overwhelm the intruder with a human wave tactic.
Xu Fei, meanwhile, was happy to take it easy. With Hell Ear diving back into the fray, he could lead Ma Sanlaizi out as if strolling through an empty park.
They swaggered out of the Gong family’s territory through the back gate.
“Now, where in Jinmen City can we lay low for a bit to avoid the heat?”
Xu Fei wasn’t afraid of trouble, but time was the one thing he was short on right now.
