Bai Zhan immediately gave Xu Fei a crisp military salute before hurrying off to carry out his tasks.
Xu Fei then notified Hell’s Ear that the alert status could be lifted. For now, at least, everything had been resolved, though the mysterious Blood Cloak Sect still hadn’t shown up.
When Hell’s Ear returned to report to Xu Fei, he seemed slightly displeased, likely because he’d prepared so much with confidence, only for it to go unused.
Xu Fei smiled and patted his shoulder in reassurance.
“No need to look so glum. Being prepared is always better than being caught off guard. Put away your secret weapons; they’ll come in handy one day!”
Xu Fei hadn’t anticipated that the Red Buddha Society President would meet her end by self-detonating.
But regardless, this major threat had finally been dealt with, and even Xu Fei’s mood lifted.
Leaving the cleanup to Bai Zhan, Xu Fei returned home and rested well.
The next morning, he received a phone call.
“Hello, who’s this?”
Still groggy from just waking up, Xu Fei answered, and the voice on the other end responded.
“Boss! It’s been nearly a month since we last spoke. Have you forgotten about our company?”
Only then did Xu Fei recall that he hadn’t checked in on the branch office he’d set up in the capital for quite some time.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, he replied, “No… how could I forget you guys? I’ve just been busy lately. I’ll come by in person today to check things out!”
After hanging up, Xu Fei got ready, had breakfast, and drove straight to the Wangjing Tower.
Perhaps knowing the boss was coming for an inspection, the company was a hive of activity and optimism when Xu Fei arrived.
“Mr. Xu, you’re finally here! I’ve got nearly a month’s worth of reports piled up!” the branch’s general manager said with a wry smile.
Xu Fei followed him into the office, listening as he began detailing the past month’s updates.
As the report dragged on, Xu Fei grew restless, uninterested in these business matters.
“Alright, stop with the reports. Just tell me straight: can the company’s performance this past month hold up when I report to my wife?”
The general manager knew full well that Xu Fei’s wife was Lin Qingxue, the head of the Jiangbei headquarters.
Rubbing his hands, he chose his words carefully before saying diplomatically, “Well… it’s a bit short, Mr. Xu. You know the scale of our operations in Jiangbei, so…”
“How much more do we need? Make a list and get it to me quickly, got it?”
With that, Xu Fei left the office and sat down again on the outdoor viewing platform.
His urgency stemmed from one thing: after all this time, he was missing his wife and child in Jiangbei.
But having come to the capital and experienced its bustle, Xu Fei didn’t want to return. Instead, he wanted to bring his wife and child here.
However, he knew Lin Qingxue valued her company and business deeply.
If Xu Fei couldn’t show results with the branch in the capital, Lin Qingxue would never agree to relocate.
