Xu Fei reached into his pocket, pulled out a pack of tissues, and handed them over. Hua Ling, clearly still shaken from the recent ordeal, instinctively flinched.
“No need to worry, I’m here to save you. A big star like you, crying and ruining your makeup, it’d be quite the mess if the paparazzi caught you like this, wouldn’t it?”
Hearing Xu Fei’s words, Hua Ling realised he had a point. She took the tissues he offered, wiping away the tears and smudged makeup from her face.
Suddenly, a flurry of hurried footsteps approached from behind. Without turning, Xu Fei knew it was Hua Ge and his crew rushing over.
“Hua Jie! Hua Jie, are you alright?”
Hua Ge, as expected, arrived with his lackeys, looking panicked as he saw Hua Jie curled up in the car, hugging her knees and crying.
“You useless lot! What are you even good for? If it weren’t for him, I’d have been taken who-knows-where by now!”
Sobbing, Hua Jie stammered out her words, hurling the crumpled tissue in her hand at Hua Ge’s face.
Only then did it dawn on Hua Ge that Xu Fei was the key reason Hua Jie was safe. Reflecting on his earlier rudeness towards Xu Fei, he felt a pang of regret.
Gritting his teeth, Hua Ge turned and bowed deeply to Xu Fei.
“I’m sorry, sir. I sincerely apologise for my earlier rudeness. Thank you for saving Hua Jie!”
But Hua Jie, still in the car, wasn’t about to let it slide.
“What? You dared to be rude to my saviour? I think you’re done here, aren’t you?”
As Hua Jie seemed ready to verbally sack him, Xu Fei spoke up.
“As long as you’re fine, that’s what matters. I’ve got things to do, so I’ll head off. You lot carry on.”
Xu Fei had no interest in whether Hua Ge got fired or not. He wasn’t one for holding grudges, though he lived by the principle of mutual respect. But that didn’t mean he was petty. Especially now, with his current strength, Xu Fei had grown more open-minded about many things.
After all, as a master, if he stooped to bickering with small fry like these, he’d never have a moment’s peace.
With that, Xu Fei turned and strode off towards the airport terminal.
“Darling, we’re over here! Did you save that girl?”
Xu Fei nodded in response.
“She’s safe, no harm done. Just a few delusional petty thieves, nothing to worry about.”
Hearing this, Lele couldn’t help but cling to Xu Fei’s leg, cooing sweetly.
“Daddy’s amazing! Daddy’s a big hero!”
Xu Fei’s face lit up with a bright smile. He crouched down, scooped Lele up, and hoisted her onto his shoulders.
“Alright then, how about this big hero takes Lele to get something tasty?”
“Absolutely!”
With that, Xu Fei, Lin Qingxue, and Lele got into the car and left the airport.
Hua Jie had just climbed out of the rickety van when she caught sight of Xu Fei speeding past in his car. A strange feeling stirred in her heart.
She’d noticed the beautiful woman and adorable little girl in the back seat, and she sighed to herself.
“Didn’t expect he’s already settled down, huh. What a shame, another good man off the market!”
Though she said this, Hua Jie was still curious about Xu Fei’s true identity.
Given her fame, it was odd for someone to save her in such an emergency and ask for nothing in return.
“Hua Jie, your car’s here!”
