Brother Hao was now fuming, rolling up his sleeves in a huff.
Or rather, he was itching to see the panic-stricken look on Hualing’s face.
Last night, he had arranged for someone to snatch Xiaohang’s laptop, from which he retrieved the electronic version of the original contract.
Now, with both contracts in hand, Brother Hao had already altered the compensation amount to a whopping one billion!
Even if you combined all of Brother Hao’s assets and his company’s market value, it wouldn’t come close to one billion. He was absolutely certain a female star with just three or four years in the industry couldn’t possibly afford it!
“Let’s see how you’ll come begging on your knees when you can’t pay up!”
A smug, sleazy grin spread across Brother Hao’s face as his assistant, standing nearby, made yet another call to Hualing.
“Alright, I understand. We’ll be there soon.”
Hualing, still not particularly assertive, hung up with a blank expression and looked at Xu Fei.
Even without hearing the call, Xu Fei knew it must have been the other side urging them to hurry up.
He immediately contacted the newspaper’s boss, who, upon hearing Xu Fei’s voice, eagerly said,
“Boss, it’s you! I’ve finished the task ahead of schedule! Not only have all the newspapers been printed, but they’ve already been sent to the areas around the capital!”
Hearing this, Xu Fei knew he was ready. He nodded, quickly taking Hualing and his wife, Lin Qingxue, as they left the hospital.
After about a half-hour drive, Xu Fei arrived at the entrance of Zhenghao Tower.
Today, the entire Zhenghao Tower seemed odd. Though the doors were wide open, there was hardly anyone inside except for a few staff members.
To Hualing, this was unusual. Normally, Zhenghao Tower saw at least ten thousand people coming and going daily.
The sudden quietness left her a bit unsettled.
“What’s wrong, Hualing?”
Xu Fei noticed her unease and asked.
“Nothing, it’s just… I don’t know why, but there are so few people here today.”
Xu Fei had noticed this too on his way in and had a hunch.
It was likely either that they’d cleared the place out to trap Hualing with the contract, ensuring no outsiders were present,
or that they’d hidden media reporters somewhere, ready to swarm in and report the moment Brother Hao achieved his goal.
Those reporters would undoubtedly be the final straw to crush Hualing.
But those were problems Hualing might have faced coming here alone. With Xu Fei by her side, things were entirely different!
Xu Fei followed Hualing to the top-floor office.
After stepping out of the elevator, he discreetly activated his x-ray vision and immediately spotted twenty or thirty media reporters crammed into a nearby room, a slight smirk forming on his lips.
“Let’s go. With me here today, you’ve got nothing to fear!”
