After activating his x-ray vision, Xu Fei carefully scanned the surroundings and found nothing unusual.
For extra caution, he even expanded his search radius, but everything still appeared normal.
“Looks like this new guy is reliable. I’ll tell Bai Zhan to reward him properly,” Xu Fei remarked, satisfied with the double’s performance.
Just then, he noticed a black van slowly approaching.
The van was filled with men in black, their attire making it obvious what they were here for.
Xu Fei needed to call Bai Zhan to update him anyway, so it served as a convenient cover.
With his mask on, he had no fear of being exposed.
While on the phone, Xu Fei watched the men from the van meticulously search every corner of the site.
“Hmph! Only the Kawashima family would bother rummaging through bins in this heat for such a thankless task,” Xu Fei sneered, as the call connected.
“Hey, Lord Jun, everything’s fine on my end. Any orders?” Bai Zhan asked.
Xu Fei nodded. “The double did well last night. He’s basically convinced the Kawashima family I’m dead. When he gets back, give him a good reward.”
“No problem, Lord Jun. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up. Call me if anything comes up!” Bai Zhan said, ending the call.
Xu Fei slipped his hands into his pockets, whistled casually, and strolled away.
Having already checked the site with his x-ray vision, he knew even a large team couldn’t inspect it more thoroughly than he had.
“Boss! We’ve checked every inch of the area. No anomalies!” one of the black-clad men reported to the van, sweating profusely, a few hours later.
“Really? Perfect! That wretched woman dared question my skills. Let’s see what she says now. Back to base!”
The boss, the captain who’d been doubted yesterday, had felt crushed at the time.
Thankfully, the leader gave him a chance to prove himself, and with this opportunity, he was confident he’d gathered enough evidence to shut down the skepticism.
After the van left, about two kilometres from the site, in a small house, a man reeking of alcohol suddenly woke up.
“Ugh… my head’s killing me. Shouldn’t have drunk so much last night,” he groaned, struggling to get off the bed.
He glanced at the floor, littered with empty bottles.
Pulling back the curtains to let in sunlight, he noticed a white object on the floor.
“What’s this? Did I pick it up on the way home drunk?”
Curious, he picked up the white object and discovered it was a finely crafted mask!
He put it on and looked in the mirror, stunned to see himself transformed into someone else.
Instantly, he knew it was a treasure worth keeping.
“I’m rich! Once I figure out everything about this mask, I’m set!” he exclaimed, ecstatic.
