In the park, there was a small pavilion selling various drinks and food.
Bai Feng sat there, pretending to eat and drink water.
Xu Fei walked over and patted Bai Feng’s shoulder, startling her so much she nearly cried out.
“Shh, don’t make a sound. Those guys have been dealt with, it’s alright now, it’s alright,” Xu Fei said.
He knew Bai Feng was feeling agitated and on edge.
So, before she could scream, he quickly put his arm around her shoulders and whispered softly in her ear.
Only then did Bai Feng realise the person beside her was Xu Fei.
Tears burst forth like a broken dam; those few minutes earlier had felt like the longest in her life.
Onlookers saw nothing amiss, assuming they were just an ordinary couple.
Eventually, Xu Fei hugged Bai Feng and led her away from the crowded area to a park bench, where he comforted her thoroughly.
Bai Feng didn’t know how much time had passed, but as she cried, she fell asleep on Xu Fei’s shoulder.
Xu Fei glanced at the now-sleeping Bai Feng, her breathing steady, and sighed helplessly.
Then, he gently hoisted her onto his back and left the park, returning to their apartment.
The next day, when Bai Feng woke, she opened her eyes and found herself in the bedroom.
Seeing the familiar surroundings, her guarded heart finally eased.
She dressed and opened the door, immediately catching a whiff of something fragrant.
Glancing at the dining area, she saw breakfast already laid out, while Xu Fei was still busy in the kitchen.
“You’re up? Hurry and freshen up, then eat and head to school!” Xu Fei said with a faint smile, before lowering his head to continue cooking.
Bai Feng went to the bathroom, washed up, and noticed her slightly puffy eyes in the mirror.
As she left, Xu Fei had finished preparing his breakfast and joined her at the table.
Watching Xu Fei sit across from her with a calm expression, Bai Feng took a few bites but found the food tasteless.
Noticing something was off, Xu Fei asked, “What’s wrong, is it not tasty? Should I pop downstairs to the breakfast shop for something else?”
Bai Feng shook her head quickly, hesitated for a moment, then finally voiced the question she’d been holding back.
“Brother Fei, what happened last night, was it all real?”
Initially, Bai Feng thought it might have been a nightmare.
But seeing her swollen eyes while washing her face confirmed it was real.
Xu Fei put down his breakfast, looked at Bai Feng seriously, and said, “Yes, it’s real. I’ve kept things from you before because they’re too dangerous, and I didn’t want you to know.”
“But now that you’ve seen it, I won’t hide it anymore. These things happen to me every day, but don’t worry, I’ll protect your safety!”
