Stephanie’s words left Charlie wade feeling a bit awkward.
He hadn’t expected that the clever and perceptive Stephanie would see right through him with just one glance.
As he drove, he gave an embarrassed chuckle and said, “It’s not exactly avoiding them, it’s just that we’ve got to meet Tawanna to discuss some serious business…”
Stephanie smiled lightly, shook her head, and said, “Brother Charlie wade, even though we haven’t seen each other for years, I still know you well.”
She didn’t spell it out, but Charlie wade knew full well that this girl’s heart was like a clear mirror.
Unsure how to respond, Stephanie continued, “Brother Charlie wade, you don’t need to let so many things weigh you down, everything has its priorities, and delaying a bit won’t hurt.”
Charlie wade nodded slightly, sighing, “It’s just that the elders seem to be getting a bit anxious.”
Stephanie said earnestly, “They worry about a lot, especially about you failing, but I’m different from them, I’m not worried at all.”
Charlie wade smiled and asked her, “You’ve got that much faith in me, huh?”
“Absolutely!” Stephanie replied with unwavering certainty.
She’d always trusted Charlie wade unconditionally.
If one day Charlie wade told her the Earth was square, she wouldn’t doubt he was lying, she’d believe he had the power to make it square.
Charlie wade felt touched and said to her, “Nannan, since you believe I can win, just give me a little more time.”
“Sure!” Stephanie said with a smile, “I’ll wait for you, however long it takes, even if I get sick or too old to keep waiting, Brother Charlie wade, you can just give me a few Rejuvenation Pills, I’ll munch on them while I wait.”
Charlie wade’s heart swelled with emotion, even tinged with a bit of guilt.
What had he done to deserve Stephanie’s unwavering devotion all these years?
Though she trusted him completely and believed he’d come out on top, Charlie wade couldn’t help but feel a flicker of unease.
Wu Fiona had lived for over 400 years, a being beyond anything he’d ever encountered.
For now, he was still in the shadows, avoiding her edge, so the pressure wasn’t too great.
But if he ever faced Wu Fiona head-on, he feared he wouldn’t stand a chance.
So, he couldn’t help but ask Stephanie, “Nannan, if one day I get killed by the Qing Breakers, could you let go and move forward?”
“No,” Stephanie shook her head and said, “If Brother Charlie wade dies, as long as my parents are still around, I’d stay at Wade Ling Mountain guarding your tomb, once they grow old and pass, I’d follow you, letting the Wade family bury me beside you.”
“No need for that, right?” Charlie wade said instinctively, “It’s the 21st century, martyrdom isn’t a thing anymore.”
Stephanie mumbled, “Who said it’s martyrdom? It’s just that I’d have no drive to keep living, in this life, besides my parents and Brother Charlie wade, there’s nothing worth holding onto, if you’re all gone, living would just be torture.”
Charlie wade stopped the car at a traffic light, looked at her seriously, and said, “Nannan, can Brother Charlie wade entrust you with something?”
Stephanie nodded, “Brother Charlie wade, tell me!”
Charlie wade said gravely, “The enemies I’m facing, I don’t even know how strong they truly are, if one day I die unnaturally, take Uncle Orrin and Aunt Lin to a peaceful, secluded place and live well, I’ll prepare enough Rejuvenation Pills in advance so you can stay with them for a long, long time.”
He paused, then continued, “If they pass naturally someday, you live on well by yourself, with the Rejuvenation Pills, you could reach 150 years old, even if the world finds out, it wouldn’t be too shocking.”
