Claire Wilson smiled faintly, her smile tinged with bitterness, “We’re not taking new orders now, but old ones need to be rushed to avoid delaying clients.”
Charlie wade said, “Most of your orders are with Emgrand Group, right? I’m quite familiar with their Vice President Doris, want me to ask her to ease up on the deadlines?”
Claire Wilson felt even worse.
After meeting Stephen Thompson, she realised how many lies Charlie wade wove into his daily life.
Emgrand Group wasn’t just a Wade family business, it was bought specifically for Charlie wade.
All this time, she’d seen Doris Young as her biggest career benefactor, but who’d have thought this benefactor was merely Charlie wade’s proxy, all the conveniences from Emgrand Group were secretly orchestrated by him.
By February 2nd, Emgrand’s projects wouldn’t be finished, and she didn’t know whether to apologise to Doris Young or to Charlie wade, the real boss.
This left Claire Wilson feeling defeated.
She used to think her work ability earned her recognition from big entrepreneurs, leading to their orders and partnerships, but now, she realised even if her skills were lacking, the halo of being Charlie wade’s wife would ensure their unwavering support.
This was a blow to Claire Wilson, who aspired to be a strong career woman and let Charlie wade retire early.
Seeing Claire Wilson lost in thought, Charlie wade asked, “Wife, what’s on your mind? Should I talk to Emgrand’s Vice President Doris?”
“Oh…” Claire Wilson snapped back, waving her hands, “No, no, it’s embarrassing to keep troubling her, I’ll manage and sort it out.”
Afraid Charlie wade would see through her, she added, “I’ll go upstairs to pack my suitcase, tomorrow’s dinner might leave me no time.”
Charlie wade stood up, “Let me help you pack.”
“No need,” Claire Wilson nervously tucked her hair, “You chat with Mum and Dad, you’ve been away for a while.”
Jacob Wilson chimed in, “Yeah, good son-in-law, I’ve been wanting to catch up, President Pei told me today he’s aiming to climb higher and might pull me up too, when are you free to have dinner with Master Don Albert?”
Charlie wade smiled, “How’s President Pei been performing lately?”
“Great,” Jacob Wilson chuckled, “The old guy’s really learned to keep a low profile, even though my position’s lower now, he’s even more polite to me.”
Charlie wade nodded, “After we’re back from the Maldives, I’ll find time to mention it to Don Albert.”
Jacob Wilson beamed, “That’s fantastic! Thanks, good son-in-law!”
As Claire Wilson climbed the stairs, she overheard this, picturing Don Albert’s intimidating face.
Back when she was in school, she’d heard of Master Don Albert, a towering figure in Aurous Hill’s underworld, but shortly after the Wade family acquired Emgrand Group, he became subservient to Charlie wade, calling him Master Wade, now it was clear Don Albert must’ve known Charlie wade’s identity all along, hence his respect.
When her mother was scammed by P2P and her father joined the calligraphy association as vice president, it was Don Albert who helped, all because of Charlie wade’s status as the Wade family heir.
All this time, her family had been cared for by Charlie wade in countless ways, leaving Claire Wilson deeply ashamed.
In her heart, she whispered, “Charlie wade, for so long, you’ve looked after our family in every way, it’s time we started thinking about you…”
